This position is located in Woodward, Iowa.
Plan, direct and administer a wide variety of diagnostic, evaluative, assessment, therapeutic, and behavior modification/management services to persons with intellectual, developmental, psychiatric, and/or medical disorders. This includes ensuring that all clinical and behavioral interventions, programs, and services provided through the Psychology Department are scientifically- and ethically-based, and consistent with current standards, guidelines, and principles in the field of psychology and behavioral analysis. This includes attending professional meetings and conferences (as authorized), and staying abreast of current trends and advances in the fields of psychology and behavioral analysis.
Ensure overall effectiveness of psychological services, including the coordination of psychological services with other services at the facility. Chair and administer Psychology Department committees, such as the Peer Review Committee. Serve as a member of numerous committees, such as Management Team, Incident Review, and Quality Council. Regularly attend monthly integrated review meetings.
Directly manage and supervise a team of at least 6 psychologists and coordinate duties of psychological assistants with Habilitation Services. Supervise and evaluate the clinical and administrative work of lower level psychologists, as well as technical and support positions assigned. Assign professional staff to the various units or treatment teams as needed. Effectively recommend personnel actions related to selection, retention, disciplinary procedures, performance, leaves of absence, grievances, work schedules, and assignments to the superintendent. Administer personnel and related policies and procedures consistent with facility and Departmental procedures and expectations.
Be an active member of the facility management team. Plan, organize, and be responsible for procedures, policies, budgets, staff requirements, operating conditions, and strategic planning for the Psychology Department in a manner that is consistent with the policies and procedures established at the facility and Department.
Direct, design, and provide intra- and inter-department in-service training to professional and paraprofessional staff. Topics may include, but are not limited to: psychological and behavioral theory and practice; behavior management of complex medical and mental health conditions; and crisis management and de-escalation. Plan and direct the intra- and inter-departmental training program for new and existing employees to orient them to the Psychology Department, its practices, expectations, and goals. Provide consultation to other departments and professionals to help them better manage persons with difficult or complex needs and behaviors.
Serves as administrator on duty on a rotating basis which requires being available to the facility 24 hours per day to address emergency issues that may arise surrounding all aspects of the facility. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited college or university in a Doctorate Degree program with an emphasis in psychology, behavior analysis or counseling, and four years of full-time professional experience as a Psychologist in an institutional or community mental health, intellectual disability, long-term care or corrections program.
