Purpose:

The Investment Accounting team is seeking a talented Senior Investment Accountant to support the continuous growth of Athene’s derivative portfolio. This role is responsible for the investment accounting and reporting requirements for Athene’s derivative instruments on a U.S. Statutory, GAAP and Bermuda Statutory basis. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in derivative instruments including options, futures, forwards, and swaps.This role may sit in either West Des Moines, IA or El Segundo, CA.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the investment accounting close activities including the preparation of journal entries, management reports and account reconciliations.

  • Prepare U.S. Statutory, U.S. GAAP, and Bermuda Statutory investment financial statements, footnotes and supporting schedules including consolidated U.S. GAAP (10Q & 10K).

  • Review of investment portfolio activity in the PAM for Investments (PFI) system and perform related general ledger reconciliations.

  • Lead continuous improvement projects and challenge current processes within the team.

  • Support the financial analysis of operating results, balance sheets, and other key performance indicators related to annual planning, quarterly forecasting, and analysis against actual results.

  • Support internal and external audit requests.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 5+ years experience working with investments, banking and/or accounting required.

  • Knowledge of various investment types and the ability to understand complex transactions.

  • Ability to multi-task and adjust quickly in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to change priorities to meet critical deadlines.

  • Knowledge of GAAP and Statutory financial accounting regulations.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel experience required.

Desired qualifications:

  • Knowledge of derivative instruments and the applicable accounting guidance (including hedge accounting).

  • Experience with PAM for Investments (PFI) or other investment accounting systems.

  • CPA designation.

  • Public accounting experience is a plus.
