GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory-basis financial statements and disclosures as well as annual audited financial statements. The incumbent prepares and records reinsurance settlements on a recurring basis, as well as plays a lead role in a variety of other accounting department processes and reconciliations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts statutory-basis financial reporting including preparation of audited financial statements and disclosures, quarterly and annual regulatory financial statement filings, and annual statutory MD&A filings.
Prepares weekly and monthly reinsurance settlements.
Completes monthly accounting and reporting work, including account reconciliations and recurring journal entries relating to debt and intercompany accounts.
Prepares annual audited financial statements for employee benefit plans.
Provides information for internal and external auditors.
Provides back-up support to other team members as needed.
Provides work direction to junior accountants.
Performs other related work as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field of study; plus three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and/or financial reporting; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS:
CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
