American Equity Mortgage Analyst - Commercial Mortgage in West Des Moines, Iowa



The Mortgage Analyst is responsible for assisting with financial, business and legal analysis of simple-moderate commercial real estate transactions for mortgage origination and to ensure compliance with the legal documents, insurance department, regulations and company policy. Provides front line service to and communicates with correspondents, borrowers, attorneys, mortgage bankers, environmental engineers, appraisers, title officers, property managers, vendors and other commercial mortgage professionals.


  • Underwrites and analyzes potential loan requests through review of correspondent loan package, analysis of financial data including cash flow spreadsheet, determination of quality and functionality of collateral and review of borrower commercial real estate expertise and financial capability.

  • Gathers and evaluates economic, demographic and other real estate market data for potential loan opportunities.

  • Presents loan opportunities to the Loan Review group and Loan Committee.

  • Reviews single tenant or major/anchor tenant leases to identify any issues that need to be addressed prior to rate lock.

  • Drafts mortgage applications for review by Mortgage Originators.

  • Prepares files for underwriting including preparation of committee write-up package for review by Mortgage Originators.

  • Maintains contact with correspondent, communicates progress of loan request/application and obtain any required information and documentation.

  • Travels as necessary to assess and inspect properties, learn market dynamics and meet correspondents.

  • Assists in the annual review and rating of the loan portfolio.

  • Provides assistance on other commercial loan projects as needed.

  • Performs other related work as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, real estate, marketing or related field of study; plus a minimum of 1 year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
