GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Budget Manager is responsible for the ongoing development and maturation of an efficient and effective budgeting and forecasting process that produces accurate and achievable budgets and forecasts that align with the Company’s strategic objectives. The incumbent leads the refinement and integration of ongoing budget preparation and analysis processes within the Company, including provision of recommendations for improvements in current budgetary policies/procedures. The Budget Manager acts as a key business partner for Senior Management and provides support for informed expense and budget decision making at all levels throughout the Company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the execution of budget preparation, analysis and communication of results.

  • Sets strategy, policy, procedures and best practices for the prudent management of company expenses through a budget and expense management framework.

  • Identifies enhancements to existing processes, implementing change in partnership with Accounting team members.

  • Analyzes and distills expense and budget data and related trends for reporting to Senior Management.

  • Coordinates and facilitates budget and expense review meetings with Senior Management; partners with leaders to evaluate and manage expenses to company guidelines.

  • Monitors performance against annual, intermittent and project budgets on a periodic basis to analyze trends and project expenses.

  • Provides meaningful, actionable insights and recommendations regarding budget and expense results; participates in cost benefits analyses for select expenses.

  • Supports continuous improvement of organizational efficiency and effectiveness for the budget function by leading internal change initiatives.

  • Leads a diverse team of employees with responsibility for managing the employee life cycle and experience, including but not limited to, selection and retention of talent, continuous feedback and performance management, reward and recognition, corrective action and employee development.

  • Builds and maintains high level knowledge across all business areas by staying current on projects and strategic initiatives across the Company.

  • Leads in the evaluation, development and/or implementation of budgeting system/platform and various reporting tools, including but not limited to, dashboards, expense summaries and illustrations.

  • Collaborates with Accounting on matters relating to expense accounting, disclosure, and accruals.

  • Identifies skill gaps in the budget function and selects talent to fill such gaps, as needed.

  • Performs other related work as assigned.

Small team of budget analysts.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field of study; plus seven (7) years of progressively responsible related budget experience, including three (3) in a leadership role; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or MBA preferred

  • Deep knowledge of corporate budgetary best practices, policies, and procedures.

  • Demonstrated accomplishment in change management and business process improvement.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Exceptional mathematical skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and successfully with employees, customers, and other outside third parties.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills.

  • Deep Excel skills; Proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office Suite; Familiarity with Tableau a plus.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical/operational procedures.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
