Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally. Wholesale Control

The Wholesale Control (WC) organization serves as the front line risk management organization within the Wholesale Banking group of Wells Fargo supporting the Wholesale businesses with risk strategy, implementation, and execution. The Wholesale Control team is accountable to assess and effectively manage risks across all risk types and Wholesale businesses delivering an integrated view of risks, producing a sustainable control environment, and instilling a culture of strong risk management. The team is responsible to identify and assess risks, design and implement controls, and execute and monitor the controls to ensure they are working effectively to manage risk across Wholesale. Wholesale Control interfaces with Independent Risk Management and Audit to drive comprehensive and consistent implementation of regulatory and corporate risk policies and programs across Wholesale.

Job Description

The Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Control team – part of the larger Wholesale Control organization that supports the CRE business lines: Community Lending and Investment (CLI), Multifamily Capital (MFC), Structured Real Estate (SRE), Real Estate Banking (REB), Specialty Real Estate Finance (SREF), and REIT Finance Group (RFG) - has a new opportunity for a Financial Crimes Consultant 5 to support a variety of enterprise and wholesale risk activities on the Risk Operations team. This position on the CRE Risk Operations team will be responsible for strategy, implementation, and execution of enterprise and wholesale risk programs, promoting consistency, efficiency, and sustainability of processes to meet regulatory, enterprise, and group risk expectations.

The Financial Crimes Consultant 5 will have responsibility for the following, among others:

  • Reviewing escalations and making risk decisions on behalf of CRE based on a risk assessment ensuring that customer risk fits within the line of business (LOB) risk appetite for a given customer portfolio

  • Serving as the primary liaison/partner to CRE Financial Crimes Risk Control on Anti Money Laundering (AML) issues, exceptions, and negative news and serving as the “local” SME on AML requirements for Relationship Management (RM) teams.

  • Serving as the point of contact (POC) and making Financial Crimes (FC) risk decisions for all FCO activities performed on behalf of the CRE LOB, including on boarding, Periodic Reviews, Relationship Memos, PDD & HRA forms, and any other formal written risk documents ensuring these clearly articulate/mitigate risks & reflect a comprehensive understanding of the customer.

  • Serving as advisory on financial crimes/reputational issues related to prospective and existing clients that pose a higher level of risk to the LOB

  • Participating in CRE sub-business unit customer pipeline discussions to protectively identify potential Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) requirements on High Risk or complex organization structures.

  • Researching and responding to Transactional Risk Intelligence Group (TRIG) on Transaction Monitoring Reviews

  • Handling all research, decisions, processing, follow-up, maintenance regarding CRE customer Exits.

  • Coordinating and recommending a risk decision with respect to front line monitoring escalations, material negative news escalations from Wholesale Financial Crimes Risk Control (WFCRC) or other groups, and other risk matters emanating from other stakeholder groups

Location: The preferred work locations are listed but other work locations within the Wells Fargo footprint will be considered. Telecommuting within the Wells Fargo footprint may also be a consideration.

There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: fraud, Bank Secrecy Act, anti money laundering, investigations of financial crimes transactions or policy violations, risk management, or compliance

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to interact with integrity and a high level of professionalism with all levels of team members and management

  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
