Performs a variety of clinical duties; responsible for assisting the physician with direct patient care. Perform other tasks as required, both administrative and clinical. Responsible for providing direct care to employees and other personnel who become ill and/or are injured on company property. Clinical Excellence/Patient Care · Answers questions and provides teaching to patients and family members. · Documents appropriate information in the patient’s chart. · Complete patient forms and file medical records/correspondence, including progress notes, diagnostic information, professional correspondence and x-rays. · Measure and record patient’s statistical data and medical history at the request of the provider. · Record and obtain physician approval for medication refill requests, return calls to pharmacies with refill information. · Schedule referrals for patients as requested by the provider; complete appropriate forms or requisitions required for referrals or lab testing. · Assist provider with patient examination, procedures and emergencies. · Is knowledgeable and trained to conduct EKG, breath alcohol, pulmonary function, audiogram and drug testing services and additional lab tests as required. · Prepare and assist provider with patient examination, specimen collection, minor surgical procedures and treatment of the patients, including administration of medication under direct supervision of the provider. · Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations. · Integrates and demonstrates FOCUS values and Expectations for Personal and Service Excellence to guide professional behaviors, while adhering to the policies and procedures of IH-DM. · Balance team and individual responsibilities; be open and objective to other’s views; give and welcome feedback; contribute to positive team goals; and put the success of the team above own interests. · Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately. · Practice reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DNV, OSHA, DOT, and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding occupational medicine and healthcare. · Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule. Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors.

Key Accountability · Instruct patients with special instructions given by the provider. · Maintain inventory for clinical supplies. · Handle emergencies, as necessary. · Performs functions other than described due to extenuating circumstances. · This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPH-DM Hospital Emergency Incident Command System. Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained. · Completes all education/training modules as required by supervisor via Net Learning. · Assume responsibility for own continued professional growth.

Education:

Graduate of an accredited LPN nursing program or a nationally accredited medical assistant program

Experience:

Experience in clinical nursing preferred over hospital nursing experience.

Previous clinical experience preferred/desirable.

License(s)/Certification(s):

A current state of Iowa nursing license or nationally accepted medical assistant certification required. Licenses & Certifications must be maintained.

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons
