This experience will expose you to many different areas of the organization and position you well as you progress through your career at Athene.ROLE PURPOSE:Athene is looking for a highly motivated AVP to join our Accounting & Transactions Advisory Group. The AVP will interact with Athene senior leaders on complex and technical transactions, lead a technical team and provide oversight and maintenance of the SOX control environment for insurance contracts and general accounting related transactions and accounting policies. This position will report to the Head of Accounting & Transactions Advisory Group.
Lead all aspects of US GAAP and US STAT accounting policy activities across all business units for the insurance contracts and general accounting transactions of Athene; efficient communication of activity and issues across the organization to all relevant stakeholders.
Lead a team of professionals responsible for analyzing all strategic and complex transactions related to insurance contracts (i.e., reinsurance deals, mergers & acquisitions, pension risk transfer deals, product development, etc.) and general accounting topics.
Lead Athene’s implementation of the Long-Duration Targeted Improvements (LDTI) implementation efforts.
Become the face of Athene among industry advocacy groups including the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) and NAIC Interested Parties groups to advocate Athene’s positions relevant to insurance contracts and other topic areas.
Lead the development, maintenance and publication of Athene’s comprehensive Accounting Policy Manual across all relevant accounting topic areas.
Lead the identification, assessment, monitoring and communication of new and emerging accounting guidance developed by the FASB, SEC and NAIC across all relevant accounting topic areas.
Develop and implement internal training opportunities for the broader Finance organization.
Lead special projects as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
8+ years of experience in accounting or auditing; CPA strongly preferred.
Expert in GAAP and Statutory accounting for insurance contracts and business combinations.
Extensive experience researching, resolving and communicating technical accounting matters.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred; Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required.
