The Phlebotomist draws blood from patients or donors of allages in hospitals, clinics, blood banks, or similar facilities for analysis orother medical purposes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assembles equipment, such as tourniquets, needles, anddisposable containers for sharps, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, andalcohol on work tray, according to requirements for specified tests orprocedures

• Verifies identity of patient or donor

• Converses with patient or donor and explains procedure

• Applies tourniquet to arm, locates accessible vein, swabspuncture area with antiseptic, and inserts needle into vein to draw blood intocollection tube or bag

• Knowledgeable in selection of appropriate collectiondevices, tubes and gauges

• Withdraws needle, applies treatment to puncture site, andlabels and stores blood container for subsequent processing

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma or its equivalent

• Successful completion of Phlebotomist training withsubsequent certification (if applicable) as a Phlebotomist

• Minimum of one year relevant experience preferred

• Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice

• Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable

• Current CPR if applicable

• TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

• Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)

• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

• Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site

• Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements

• Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required

• Computer proficiency required

• Must be at least 18 years of age
