Our intensive care unit is a busy 12 bed unit that cares for a variety of critically acute patients. Among doing bedside procedures, we also do CRRT, drains, bolts, CABGS, balloon pumps, and targeted temperature management. We have a great team atmosphere and encourage continuous education. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. Maintains a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code for Nurses, Philosophy of Nursing at UnityPoint Health with in the structure of the Professional Nurse Practice Model and in collaboration with other care givers.
To assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care at Registered Nurse skill level, in collaboration with the Medical Plan of Care, with a minimum of assistance. To function as primary care leader, associate, or charge nurse so that optimum quality of patient care is maintained according to the philosophy and objectives of Allen Hospital. To exercise accountability responsibility, authority, autonomy, and act as a role model and resource person with expanded theory and expertise. * Perform pre and/or post-operative critical care for surgical patients. * Maintains department competencies related to proper care of patients. * Responsible for managing equipment and responding to emergencies, signaling concerns to Physicians within a timely manner. Operates equipment and performs technical skills according to policies and standards; learns new skills and seeks assistance appropriately. * Responsible for sedation administration and recognizing and assessing the need for reversal and airway management. * Ability to flex schedule and adapt to changes in workflow. * Able to respond to call as soon as needed, but no later than 1 hour. * Other duties as assigned.
Associates Degree in Nursing
Current license in the state of Iowa or meets criteria established by Iowa Board of Nursing.
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities. May drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle.
