UnityPoint Health Peri-Operative Assistant-Ambulatory Services in Waterloo, Iowa
A Peri-Operative Assistant is responsible for providing timely assistance, performing within all areas of the department to ensure safe, smooth transition of patients throughout the peri-operative experience. Areas of responsibility include patient preparation, transportation, room set-up and turnover, environmental services, supply and performing any other duties deemed necessary to ensure quality patient care, under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse.
Performs specific tasks as directed by the RN and other healthcare team members per competency education. Consults and seeks out guidance from RN and/or other healthcare team members, as appropriate and when completing new or unfamiliar tasks or duties.
Obtains records and/or accurately enters data into the EMR. Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
Verbally presents factual, concise, and timely information and/or patient care data to the RN, the healthcare team, patients and/or family members in a professional manner.
Assists in preparation of patient for surgery and/or treatments. Assists with care of the post-operative patient.
Transports patients and belongings as needed. Accurately verify and transport the patient. Assisting patient to vehicle upon discharge.
Hand-offs will be done with attention to detail and with safety as a high priority. Hand-offs are utilized to communicate patient treatment and assessment information, patient education needs, goals of care and other quality care measures at each change of caregiver or setting of care.
Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections; reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
Maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
Responsible for turning over rooms, filling rooms with linen and supplies, emptying dirty linen from rooms, emptying trash, organizing procedural carts, refilling IV trays, participating in bagging and tracking patient belongings and aiding in supply of PARs for the department.
Hours: 4:00a-1:30p and 9:00a- 5:30p
Completion of nursing assistant or equivalent course preferred.
Medical terminology class and completion of Nursing Assistant or equivalent course preferred.
Six months of nursing assistant experience.
Internal applicants within UPH-Allen, in good standing, with one year of hospital experience will be considered.
Ability to read, write and understand English.
Must be able to communicate effectively and display a positive attitude towards coworkers, staff, visitors and patients.
