UnityPoint Health Clinic Laboratory Technician-Certified in Waterloo, Iowa

The Certified Clinic Laboratory Technician position is responsible for performing laboratory tests and analyses in the clinic laboratory. The Certified Clinic Laboratory Technician performs routine laboratory testing, laboratory specimen collection and is responsible for quality control and regular maintenance of laboratory equipment in the clinic laboratory.

Performs routine lab testing in the clinic laboratory following proper laboratory procedure and follow up of critical lab values. Performs and verifies quality control and instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. Collect, receive and process laboratory samples and sendouts following proper laboratory procedures. Perform inventory management and other miscellaneous tasks as needed. Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines. Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance. Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position. Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year. Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance

  • Associate degree or Qualify as Testing Personnel under Federal Register Sec 493.1489

  • Team member must present record of certification to the Laboratory Director within 1 year of employment and/or within 90 days of expiration of MT/MLT/MLS/CLA-ASCP certification. (non regulatory)

  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English

  • Must possess basic computer skills and knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser

  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
