Berkley Credit Analyst in Urbandale, Iowa
The Credit Analyst provides in-depth financial statement analysis in support of Commercial Surety account business. S/he maintains primary responsibility for entering and analyzing statistical and financial data in the surety system, assists with portfolio management of accounts and contributes to the short and long-term strategic objectives of the Company and department. Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Performs detailed financial analysis regarding overall financial results in support of account underwriting.
Completes LOA review templates as assigned to allow prompt underwriter submission for appropriate level of home office approval.
Completes financial statement and analysis within the underwriting system with a focus on timeliness and accuracy.
Assists in various portfolio management tasks in limited capacity as assigned by division management or manager.
Pursues various training opportunities to gain/increase surety knowledge. Learns to apply surety bond risk assessment to supplement credit analysis.
Establishes new accounts within the underwriting system. Also responsible for various other file maintenance tasks within the system.
Attends and participates with underwriting calls and account meetings as requested.
Minimum 4-year degree with Business/Finance/Accounting Majors preferred, but not required
Minimum 3 years’ experience in Banking or Credit Analysis required
Ability to read, analyze, discuss and interpret financial statements of varying complexity.
Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise reports and business correspondence so that others will clearly understand the content and the intent. Provides well developed recommendations in support of new and existing accounts, as appropriate.
Capacity to solve practical problems and appropriately deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to effectively work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, along with a commitment to customer service.
Ability to use the automation tools provided by Berkley Surety Group (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, U/W System, etc.).
Must be able to organize and effectively handle small to medium volumes of information and independent workload with supervision from direct manager.
