Mechanical Design Engineer II Sioux City, IA Responsibilities:Uses engineering skills and manufacturing experience to design sheet metal enclosures and pole structures to house equipment for the wireless industry.Assists vendors during first article builds to assure accuracy, proficiency and on-time delivery to customers.Tracks design and build cycles against schedules. Communicates real time updates to Engineering Manager, Estimators and Contract Administrators.Produces production ready designs considering production feasibility, cost, manufacturability and design accuracy.Recommends/implements design changes for reduction in production cycle times, optimal cost efficiency, universal component use and ease of assembly.Recommends/initiates production process changes to improve productivity and quality.Provides technical input to managerial personnel regarding design, construction or program modifications.Estimates quantities and cost of materials, equipment and/or labor to determine project feasibility.Designs aesthetically pleasing, thermally efficient and structurally sound products.Evaluates customer design specifications and assures compliance throughout development cycle.Initiates daily communication on project status to Engineering Manager.Interacts directly with customer when required. Demonstrates technical product knowledge, design configurations, concepts and limitations and quality processes.Acquires knowledge and assures adherence to all Sabre procedures and policy for engineering, production, tracking and follow-up.Travels with overnight stays to customer and vendor locations as needed.Other duties as assigned. Requirements:3+ years of mechanical design experience.2+ years of sheet metal design and manufacturing experience.Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.Knowledge and proficient use of Solidworks 3D design software. Preferably 3 years minimum experience.Knowledge and proficient use of CAD systems.Knowledge and proficient use of Microsoft Office applications.Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in sheet metal cabinet construction. Knowledge of tubular steel and pole construction an asset.Knowledge and implementation of DFMA and FMEA preferable.Knowledge and experience evaluating design tradeoffs to achieve the most efficient cost effective designs.Knowledge of welding and associated codes.Knowledge of design techniques, tool, and principals involved in production of precision technical drawings and models.Telecom experience is a plus, especially the wireless industry.Professional and effective English communication skills. Ability to communicate information through speech and in writing to be easily understood by all personal, internal and external.
