1 - First Shift

The Senior Engineer - Simulation and Analysis analyzes structural components of Vermeer products to evaluate product life and strength as part of the simulation and analysis engineering department. This position manages the simulation and analysis process by providing high quality simulations and certifications of structures. This role creates innovative solutions for multiple products and mentors and supervises simulation and analysis engineers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Demonstrate the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused, and stewardship and model the associated behaviors.

  2. Prepare realistic simulations of machine designs using appropriate structural analysis techniques, such as finite element analysis (FEA), and review, inspect, verify, and interpret solution results.

  3. Analyze structural issues and create solutions.

  4. Calculate unknown static and dynamics loads from data and assumptions using rigorous calculations and free body diagrams.

  5. Review, modify, and simplify complex CAD models and convert them to finite element models. Load and constrain the model to emulate realistic behavior. Ensure results and solutions are reasonable.

  6. Develop and file reports which clearly document the project. Present and discuss findings, offer improvement suggestions, and organize enhancement strategy as needed to achieve satisfactory resolution of issues.

  7. Formulate an overall analysis strategy and sequence that will best emulate real operating conditions and characteristics to meet the project goal. Provide guidance and support for a proper analysis.

  8. Instruct other users in structural design, structural analysis, and FEA best practices.

  9. Manage project work through scheduling and prioritizing project tasks to support product development and manufacturing.

  10. Mentor team members to ensure their performance exceeds or meets expectations.

Education and/or Experience

  • 4-year college degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Agriculture Engineering with a minimum of 6 years' related experience.

  • Or other 2 or 4-year college degree with a minimum of 12 years' related experience.

Computer Skills

  • Previous experience with Finite Element Analysis software and ANSYS is preferred.

  • Proficient in operating CAD software, including SolidWorks, is preferred.

  • Matlab and LMS Test.Lab experience is preferred.

  • Some knowledge of programming language is also preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to maintain high level of attention to detail while staying focused on the overall objective.

  • Strong knowledge of strength of materials, durability, material fatigue strength and manufacturability to ensure the right configuration and materials are designed and selected.

  • Ability to interpret machine behavior into reasonable and realistic simulation conditions.

  • Ability to identify the root cause of defective designs.

  • Ability to create robust designs and identify changes early in the design process.

  • Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness with customers and peers.

  • Ability to produce accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner.

  • Demonstration of good oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage time and resources to meet the needs and schedules of customers and respond immediately to questions and crisis with solutions.

  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in analysis processes, particularly FEA, and proficiency in applying analysis methods to practical issues.

  • Ability to meet customer’s needs, provide consistent communication, and balance multiple project priorities with high quality solutions.

P.E. certificate, Fundamentals of Engineering Examination, or E.I.T and/or equivalent preferred
