1 - First Shift

The Production Manager has responsibility for leading daily operations in a manufacturing plant. This position will direct and manage the activity of Area Managers and Group Leaders that are responsible for producing high quality Vermeer products. The Production Manager will collaborate with teams such as: Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Control, Procurement, Human Resources, Sales, and Service. This role will be focused on developing talent around lean principles, improving and maintaining manufacturing operations, and meeting daily production goals. The ideal candidate will have the ability to understand daily performance metrics, to lead cross functional groups, and operate in a way that supports Vermeer’s high standards for safety, quality, and lean manufacturing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Lead through the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused, and stewardship and model the associated behaviors. Manage assigned team members in performance of their duties. Establish and monitor individual and team goals which are aligned with the organization’s business strategies and objectives and ensure department is properly serving its internal and external customers and meeting defined expectations.

  2. Collaborate with the Continuous Improvement teams to ensure a lean manufacturing approach is being used to conduct business, eliminate waste and reduce work-in-process.

  3. Monitor and respond to plant performance in the areas of production uptime, downtime and efficiency data to determine production problems and equipment and employee needs, and develop processes and procedures to improve efficiency. Direct, prioritize and coordinate production according to customer demand and need to achieve on-time delivery within or below budget. Maintain a safe and compliant environment according to safety standards, policies, and employee welfare.

  4. Contribute to the business planning of the division by monitoring, requesting and properly utilizing production needs and demands to drive production effectiveness within budget.

Education and/or Experience

  • 4-year college degree.

  • 4 years experience in a manufacturing or equivalent business leadership role.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts, policies, standards, programs and schedules.

  • Ability to manage, lead, and develop staff in the performance of duties such that performance meets or exceeds expectations.

  • Ability to work with others in the attainment of department duties and organization goals.

  • Ability to attain performance measures in the areas of safety, quality, cost, delivery and leadership.

  • Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness with customers and peers.

  • Ability to produce accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner.

  • Demonstration of good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to identify, confront and resolve conflict in an effective manner by working with people in all levels of the Organization.

  • Ability to see the big picture and how an area affects the rest of the Organization.

  • Good project management skills.
