1 - First Shift
The Paint Engineer develops, maintains, and improves the integrity of all painting processes to ensure safety, quality, delivery, manufacturing flexibility, and operating costs are continually improved.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Demonstrate the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused, and stewardship and model the associated behaviors.
Identify and develop new technologies and process design changes that improve coating performance, quality, production efficiency, and enhance safety/ergonomics.
Utilize process FMEA/hazard study methodology to document risks, appropriate controls, actions taken, and lessons learned to eliminate or minimize risks and improve capability of new and existing processes.
Ensure painting & coating operations are in compliance with applicable state, federal, and international regulatory requirements. Maintain air emissions and chemical-usage record keeping, tracking, and reporting.
Manage projects to include initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing the work either individually or with a team of stakeholders (internal and/or external resources/partners) to achieve specific goals and meet specific success criteria within a specified timeframe.
Train and assist managers and operators in methods, operation, set up, and maintenance of new and existing equipment and processes to ensure performance is to prescribed standards.
Provide a link between manufacturing operations and new product engineering on product launches to ensure safety, ergonomic, compliance, paint quality, durability, and performance expectations are achieved.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology or Mechanical/Industrial Engineering.
Minimum of 4 years' engineering experience in the manufacturing industry.
Minimum of 3 years' experience working with liquid and powder coating processes and equipment as well as lean manufacturing and/or paint system design experience is preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to sponsor and lead annual gross margin events and meet standard for improving gross margin.
Ability to provide cost efficient alternative construction techniques, improve production methods and cycle times using effort rated time studies.
Ability to generate and complete engineering enhancement changes to ease manufacturing and assembly.
Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate projects through multiple segments including, but not limited to, service, engineering, welding, assembly and machine shop.
Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness.
Ability to operate shop equipment.
Ability to recognize and correct ergonomic and safety issues.
Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of assembly and welding techniques, Just-In-Time manufacturing processes, and statistical process variation. Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical and hydraulic drawings.
Ability to understand problems from a customer's perception and produce a mutually acceptable result leading to a reduction in quality-related customer complaints and/or issues.
Ability to understand internal/external customer needs.
Up to 5% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.
