UnityPoint Health Echocardiography Technician in Muscatine, Iowa
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Under the direction of the Manager, Non-Invasive Diagnostic; and Campus Lead, the technician is required to perform quality diagnostic echocardiographic procedures and other assigned procedure. Acts as a clinical resource person for echocardiography.
A. EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer preferred or registry Eligible sonographer. Two years college education in allied health education with emphasis in human sciences preferred.
B. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS: Considerable knowledge of clinicalcardiology and use of problem solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively with patient, clients, and physicians. Must have good organizational skills. Required to have a detailed understanding of cardiac and thoracic anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics, sectional anatomy and pathophysiology. Must be able to assume call status as required.
C. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Appropriate credential in echocardiography from the ARDMS or CCI; RDCS preferred. Will have three years from their date of hire or transfer to become credentialed in their discipline. CPR certification is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:I. TECHNICAL/ADMINISTRATIVE/CLINICAL: (Total Weight of 100) Demonstrates competence in the skills, (processes, procedures, and equipment) necessary to carry out assigned duties as identified below. Demonstrated competence in recognizing and responding to patients physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs should be evaluated in relation to the patient populations served as appropriate for each responsibility. Acts as a clinical resource person and participates with the evaluation of new equipment and in evaluating new staff. Maintains staff schedules and patient schedules, that are subject to Lead approval. A. Collects and reviews data related to the physiological/ psychological status of the patient. 1. Identifies the patient. 2. Verifies procedures. 3. Assesses patient's needs and condition. 4. Assesses the level of understanding of procedure. 5. Explains procedure. 6. Assesses physical status and psychological response. 7. Documents problems and communicates appropriately. 8. Accomplishes proper positioning. 9. Provides comfort and support during procedure. 10. Assess outstanding symptoms not related to procedure and documents. 11. Checks and prepares equipment. B. Administers diagnostic quality echocardiography procedures. 1. Recognizes abnormalities and correlate information obtained with other pertinent data. 2. Obtains pertinent clinical information from the patient, referring physician, and patient's record including cardiac-related physical findings and pertinent laboratory data. 3. Demonstrates skills in selection of relevant echocardiographic data, making quantitative impression to interpreting physician. 4. Demonstrates ability to perform the following diagnostic procedures on the adult, pediatric, neonatal and fetal patients: a. Two-dimensional and M-mode echocardiography b. Doppler and color doppler echocardiography c. Stress echocardiography d. Saline contrast; LV opacification echocardiography e. Transesophageal echocardiography f. Dobutamine echocardiography 5. Demonstrates ability to perform departmental tasks consistent with Cardiopulmonary Technician II or Technician III. C. Communicates and records data. 1. Reports dysrhythmias and EKG changes appropriately. 2. Assigns test to appropriate reading physician. 3. Completes procedures including documentation, filing of patient charges and records, and clean up of work area. 4. Maintains accurate records of physician's interpretation. D. Accepts assignment to different campus on a temporary basis as hospital needs require. E. Performs other duties as necessary to maintain the efficient functioning of the department and any additional related duties as directed by the manager or lead.
