Director, IT Architecture and Engineering

job summary:

The Director, IT Architecture and Engineering is responsible for the overall leadership and management of company's technical IT architecture. This position has a broad view and understanding of company's business landscape making sure the technical IT architecture supports the strategic and growing requirements of the enterprise. The Director, IT Architecture and Engineering will provide technical leadership and consulting across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning and execution levels. The role will gain organizational commitment for all high-level technical IT architecture plans as well as initiate and participate in projects to evaluate technologies and methods for implementing these plans. This role reports to the Vice President of Technical Services.

  • Construct strategic and tactical plans for the acquisition of new infrastructure solutions and migrations between technologies

  • Research and stay current with the latest industry best practices and strategies related to IT technical architecture (e.g. engineered systems, storage, compute, network, automation, backup, disaster recovery, high availability, virtualization, etc.) and related services (e.g. cloud computing, XaaS, managed services, etc.)

  • Develop and maintain IT technical architecture framework, standards, and road maps

  • Collaborate with business partners and IT leadership to determine future technical architecture needs, justifications, and implementations

  • Perform management tasks as required such as: team building, training, mentoring, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, etc.

  • Maintains professional contacts with other organizations, associations, research institutions, and equipment manufacturers concerning IT technical architecture

  • Support the identification, prioritization, and business justification for infrastructure service enhancements or extensions

  • Aid in activities related to vendor relationships, contract and commercial terms and conditions, and product or service performance

  • Manage and monitor commercial-sourcing agreements (MSA, SOW's, etc.) with service providers related to activities this position is responsible for

  • Assist with the development of scopes of work (SOWs), and be responsible for the final versions of requests for information, quotations and proposals, as well as managing the contract development and negotiation process

  • 4-year degree in engineering, computer science, information technology or related field and/or equivalent technical experience, plus at least 10 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications:

  • Certifications related to or demonstrated experience of technical IT architecture proficiency is strongly recommended which includes, but not limited to, The TOGAF Standard and Zachman Framework.

Experience:

  • 10+ years IT technical architecture experience

  • 5+ years project management experience

  • 3+ years experience and practical knowledge with ITIL principles and processes

Skills:

  • Must be visionary and strategic in approach with demonstrated ability to apply technical IT architecture disciplines to solve business problems

  • Supervisory skills include taking responsibility for subordinates' activities; make self available to staff, provide regular performance feedback, develop subordinates' skills and encourages growth; solicits and applies customer feedback (internal and external); fosters quality focus in others, improves processes and service

  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, prioritization, and problem solving skills

  • Ability to work effectively and manage partnerships with all areas and members of the business as well as all levels of the organization

  • Ability to analyze complex information

  • Strong project and process management skills with the ability to handle multiple vendors and contracts as well as a wide range of tasks

  • Strong understanding of implementation processes and best practices in enterprise technical IT architecture, frameworks and methodologies
