Reports directly to the Emergency Departments Director and works closely with the Clinical and Professional Development team. The role works collaboratively with other Mercy team members to assure that care is evidence based and standardized across like-populations as appropriate. The Clinical Development Specialist is a member of the MercyOne Medical Center Clinton education team and is accountable for advancing and maintaining nurse competence, enhancing professional nursing practice, and supporting achievement of career goals, and building on the educational and experiential bases of nurses across the novice to expert continuum for the ultimate objective of ensuring delivery of efficient, effective, safe, quality, and compassionate patient care. He/she cultivates an environment that promotes an appetite for lifelong learning by supporting the development of effective, quality, innovative, creative, and engaging continuing education activities, implementing evidence-based practice innovations, and continually evaluate further learning needs and/or practice changes. He/she supports a shared leadership philosophy and advances the professional practice model for patient care services.


Active registration for registered nurse, Board of Nursing, State of Iowa. Bachelor's Degree required. Master’s degree required or must be enrolled within the first year of hire. Certification in area of specialty or obtained with in the first 2 years of hire. BLS, ACLS or PALS certified. Must possess the ability to instruct in small and large group settings Must possess leadership skills to promote change and foster accountability of self and others. Must be able to operate in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
