This position is responsible for monitoring and maximizing the kiln, raw grinding, and finish grinding systems to ensure production goals are met on a daily basis. The Process Engineer will participate and drive projects and communicate maintenance requirements with the plant Maintenance Department. The Process Engineer is also responsible for reviewing and analyzing operations data to evaluate and recommend changes for efficient and continuous operation.

This position will reside in Mason City, IA.

What you will get to do:

  • Must maintain awareness of surroundings at all times and perform their work in a safe and productive manner. In the event of a workplace incident, immediate notification to a supervisor and/or manager is required.

  • Oversee the day to day operation of the kiln, raw mill, and the finish grinding systems.

  • Review and analyze operations data to evaluate and recommend changes for efficient and continuous operation using cost/benefit analysis.

  • Lead daily consultation with Management and Supervisors to discuss and evaluate kiln and finish mill performance and the resulting impact on overall production.

  • Facilitates operational approach to ensure production goals are met on a daily basis.

  • Conduct process audits and publish reports.

  • Coordinate refractory related activities, including selection, ordering, removal, installation, and maintenance of refractory history.

  • Support and administer various aspects of Corporate Continuous Improvement Program.

  • Assist in preparation of budgets and forecasts in cooperation with the Assistant Plant Manager.

  • Conduct and oversee development of Production Employees, EIT and Co-op Engineering personnel as assigned.

  • Provides technical expertise to diagnose delays in operations leading the efforts to remedy problems by taking appropriate actions to restore correct operating procedures.

  • Advises management and operations staff on necessary adjustments and changes to protocols to minimize future incidents.

  • Responsible for driving the implementation of corrective action.

  • Collaborates with the plant Quality Control Department to meet product specifications and productions goals.

  • Participates in Department on call schedule.

  • Responsible for cost control as well as achieving the maintenance and production cost targets in the kiln and finish grinding department.

  • Ensure compliance with plant policies & procedures, safety, environmental, state and federal process regulations as well as administer the Collective Bargaining agreement.

  • Must complete all assigned work in compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory requirements (i.e., MSHA, OSHA, DOT, DOL, etc.), including safety programs administered at a State or Local level where allowed by the Department of Labor.

  • Participate and drive projects with the Engineering and Maintenance departments regarding CAPEX projects.

  • Analyze and interpret finish grind data for other departments as required.

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of mill and grinding systems.

Who we are looking for:

  • Good Attitude, someone with hands-on, eager to learn and attack problems in systematic way. Must be self-motivated and work well autonomously, with others and in a team environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Material Sciences Engineering is required.

  • Minimum 3-5 years professional experience in cement manufacturing or related industry or completion of the EIT program preferred.

  • Solid understanding of chemistry of raw mix, clinker and cement

  • Working knowledge and technical competency in the cement manufacturing process, with emphasis in the Kiln, Preheater/Pre-Calciner, RM, CM, and Finish Grinding systems

  • Knowledge in refractory and refractory repairs/installations

  • Detailed knowledge about process loop tuning and optimization

  • Proven strong leadership skills

  • Prior Project Management experience is a plus

  • Proficient with Window based PC software programs, SAP experience is a plus

  • Ability to make timely, critical decisions, often under conditions of uncertainty and stress

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills

  • Knowledge of MSHA regulations and guidelines

  • Effective time management skills
