XL Specialized Trailers Director of Accounting in Manchester, Iowa

Job Overview:

Generally expected to work as a valued member of the XL Specialized Trailers team. This job is responsible for maximizing return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.

Protects assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.

Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to and working with external auditors. Minimize audit findings.

Prepares budges by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.

Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances; initiating corrective action.

Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting and reporting financial data.

Complies with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.

Creates operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.

Maintains performance of financial staff by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications.

Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.

Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. Wears proper personal protective equipment.

Identifies and anticipates safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions.

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing relating results as needed.

Ancillary Duties:

  • Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall operations of the XL Specialized Trailers.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises the Accounting Department employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Supervision Received:

Works with minimal supervision, manages own time effectively, maintains control over all current projects/responsibilities, expected to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Responsibility for Public Contact:

Daily contact requiring courtesy, discretion, and sound judgment.

Licensing and Certification:

None required

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience. MBA preferred.

  • Seven to ten years accounting experience in manufacturing.

  • Two years staff leadership experience.

  • Professional certification (CMA or CPA) preferred.
