Lauridsen Group Inc. Production Supervisor Trainee - Essentia in Lytton, Iowa

To assist supervisors in day to day activities, fill in for supervisors in the event of supervisors’ absence and gain skills, knowledge and experience to step into as supervisory role in the future.



High School Diploma or G.E.D. certification required. College degree in production or management preferred.


Five years stable work history in areas such as agriculture, production, or manufacturing preferred. Supervisory experience or three years of experience within a food processing plant as an operator or equipment maintenance provider preferred.


Supervisory Duties:

  • Assist with training of new hires in area of plant they will be working in.

  • Assist with SOP reviews and updates.

  • Work with process engineers to complete research and development projects.

  • Promote and ensure employees adhere to all established company policies and procedures including safety training, all mandated sanitary policies and regulations. Conduct and provide additional training for production personnel as needed.

  • Ensure fundamental food safety and quality practices maintained to achieve food safety and quality objectives and to support the development, implementation and maintenance and ongoing improvements of food safety programs.

  • Cover for supervisors during absences.

  • Participate in and conduct regularly scheduled departmental meetings to enhance communication throughout the plant and across all shifts.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety.

  • Assist with hiring of production personnel and assist with work performance evaluations.

  • Assist in the discipline of production operators according to company policies and procedures.

Operational Duties:

  • Troubleshoot production process including:

  • Assist maintenance / utility personnel with repairs on equipment, machinery breakdowns or notify appropriate personnel to coordinate outside report services.

  • Ensure flow of production, redirecting production employees to areas of the process needing immediate attention or support.

  • Generate and direct work orders to maintenance personnel for equipment and machinery repairs.

  • Operate company vehicle as required and forklifts and pallet jacks as needed.

  • Maintain a clean production area for safe working conditions.


  • Specific knowledge of industrial production processes, in an edible or non-edible food processing plant.

  • Responsible to assure the products manufactured are safe and meet the customer’s quality standards.

  • Must be able to distinguish if food safety violations or product quality issues occur and resolve immediately or, if unable to resolve immediately, contact appropriate plant management (i.e. the Plant Manager and/or the QC Manager).

  • Ensure responsibilities and tasks are accounted for in Warehouse/Shipping, and Production Operations in the event of absences.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety by adhering to all safety policies and by identifying and reporting hazards or unsafe acts.

  • Knowledge and ability to:

  • Operate and train personnel on equipment and machinery used in the processing of product.

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality related to all duties and responsibilities.

  • Monitor the production processes, anticipate production concerns and make effective decisions while striving for continuity of the production process.

  • Analyze, forecast and plan production objectives.

  • Maintain a good employee work ethic and provide a positive attitude among employees.

  • Perform basic and complex mathematical calculations.

  • Work daily and overtime as necessary.

  • Assist in other work related areas as requested.

  • Work in a team environment and implement continuous quality improvement.

This job requires the mental capabilities to analyze the production process to develop manufacturing techniques/procedures to attain a quality finished product produced in a timely and efficient manner. Furthermore, the incumbent must have the ability to solve problems as they arise, strive to improve upon current processes, and possess excellent communication skills in conveying the production process to plant personnel.


The working conditions for this job include but are not limited to:
