Wells Dairy Inc. Mechanical Design Engineer in Le Mars, Iowa

Description Advanced level technical and leadership position acting as the subject matter expert, (SME), coach and mentor for Mechanical Engineering and Design. Provides the following technical services, including, but not limited to: innovative machinery design to support new product concepts, complex material selection, and advanced level mechanical engineering and design to improve the performance, efficiency, and reliability of manufacturing equipment. * Supports new product innovation by providing advanced level mechanical engineering and design expertise to develop, test, and implement state-of-the-art, innovative manufacturing equipment. * Demonstrates an extensive knowledge of manufacturing equipment, plant processes, maintenance, operations, and sanitation and designs these into the optimal solution. Solves complex mechanical design and engineering problems to improve the performance, efficiency, and reliability of manufacturing equipment. Acts as a subject matter expert to evaluate the mechanical capability and performance of new manufacturing equipment. * Act as the technical expert for the suitability, use, and selection of materials used in manufacturing equipment design. * Demonstrates an advanced level of technical ability in the areas of stainless steel, steel, plastics, and aluminum machining and fabrication and is a technical resource for the shop personnel and internal customers. * Maintains and develops industry knowledge, researches, and discovers new technologies and improvements to enhance the performance, reliability, and efficiency of plant machinery and machine parts. * Actively researches, develops, maintains, and enforces company engineering specifications and standards and understands and monitors applicable industry codes. * Performs high level/complex three-dimensional CAD modeling using Inventor software. Develops animated models to demonstrate functionality of designs to customers and other technical groups. Performs finite element analysis and other mechanical engineering studies to validate designs. Checks, reviews, and critiques mechanical designs of less experienced designers. * Proactively provides support in preparing the groups standard drawings, symbols libraries, work instructions, andguidelines. * Provides engineering and design expertise to all internal and external customers as requested. Works as part of a collaborative team to balance workloads and ensure quality deliverables are produced on time. Team leader in solving complex and high impact design and development problems. ## Qualifications * BS Degree, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. * Minimum 5 to 7 years- mechanical engineering/design experience. * Knowledge - Advanced knowledge of manufacturing equipment and plant processes including maintenance, operations, and sanitation. Technical expertise in the suitibility, use, and selection of materials used in manufacturing equipment design. Must have significant knowledge of electrical and control systems in a production plant environment. * Skills - Proficient with 3D modeling using Inventor software. Proficient with Adept document management software. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel. Proficient with the use of Oracle based EAM systems. Must have the ability create advanced mechanical equipment/devices from concepts or examples. * Abilities - Technical expertise in the areas of stainless steel, steel, plastics, and aluminum machining and fabrication. Checks, reviews and critiques mechanical designs of less experienced designers. Demonstrates advanced problem solving and troubleshooting techniques with limited guidance or support. Supports a team approach to design, flexible, a willingness to learn, positive, works well with others, self-motivated.
