Corteva Agriscience Trait Discovery Project Manager in Johnston, Iowa
This position will enable the Trait Discovery Operations team to deliver competitive, integrated corn, soybean, wheat or oilseed projects across the trait discovery phase in support of key business objectives and the goal to deliver a portfolio of proprietary trait solutions that drives differential advantage for our customers. This position will work closely with the respective Discovery Assessment Team Leaders, Trait Discovery Operations Leader, R&D Functions, Program Management in the Business Platform and the Trait Discovery Leader to manage projects, track milestones, manage risks and issues, establish key milestones and ensure cross-functional interactions and communications.
Manage assigned projects to ensure efficient delivery of new products and technologies through the consistent application of best project/portfolio management principles, business analysis and budget/resource planning.
Provide leadership and direction for the identification and mediation of conflicts based on changes to project or program scope, resource needs, timing or budget.
Provide the project team with project management expertise including strategic planning, project/program status reports, budget monitoring/reporting, resource management, and issue resolution assistance.
Build project schedules, monitor timelines, align resource needs, communicate issues, identify risks, help define key milestones, document key decisions, and provide analysis of project progress.
Operationalize science strategy in support of trait product development.
Assist research leaders, scientists, and team members in the planning and efficient execution of laboratory and field trials for assigned projects.
Ensure project plans operationalize IP strategy, document contract milestones, and build in compliance with contracts and product stewardship requirements.
Develop resource forecasts and monitor actuals for the assigned projects.

Manage projects utilizing project management methodology, portfolio management processes, business analysis and budget/resource planning. Provide leadership and direction for the identification and mediation of conflicts based on changes to project or program scope, resource needs, timing or budget. Monitor overall project progress and risks on a regular basis. Provide the project team with project management expertise including strategic planning, project/program status reports, budget monitoring/reporting, resource management, and issue resolution assistance.
Develop and maintain comprehensive project/science plans, reports, work breakdown structures, Gantt charts, resource and budget plans to coordinate cross-functional project execution broadly across all relevant organizational groups. Ensure project plans operationalize IP strategy, document contract milestones, and build in compliance with contracts and product stewardship requirements.
Positively influence the meeting of milestones and deadlines across multiple years, projects and geographies. Work with project teams to identify and analyze critical path. Identify project risks and be responsible for resolution and contingency plans.
Understand how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
Work with the project tactical teams to prepare for stage gate transitions and advancement decision by the governance body
Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree and 7-10 years of experience. Strong preference for a graduate degree in agricultural science, biotechnology, molecular biology or related sciences.
Professional designation in project management and/or minimum of 7 years relevant training or relevant experience managing complex cross-functional projects.
Relevant project management experience with large agricultural biotechnology projects, or projects in related fields, including pharmaceutical product development or other complex new product development projects.
Ability to organize and align stakeholders to overcome issues and partner for success. Ability to influence without authority.
Experience in coordinating technical approaches with other business activities and priorities to achieve critical objectives for new product development and launch.
History of success in working across a broad range of organizational functions and subject matter experts from laboratory and field research, to intellectual property, sales & marketing, supply, for example, as well as with business and external partners.
Demonstrated significant positive and sustained organizational impact.
Ability to work well with team members across geographic distances and cultural differences.
Ability to effectively communicate in a complex environment with many different stakeholders.
Project experience in Ag biotech area.
Experience working with Project Management software.
