Corteva Agriscience Sr. Research Associate - Protein Expression in Johnston, Iowa

The Input Trait Discovery group combines genomic analysis, activity based screening, protein characterization and optimization to deliver novel insect control traits. We are seeking a Senior Research Associate to provide protein biochemistry expertise as part of an inter-disciplinary team for our candidate gene evaluation pipeline.

Production and purification of recombinant protein from E. coli or alternative expression systems.
Conduct assays for molecular characterization of proteins.
Execute high-throughput cloning strategies for construct generation.
Perform sequence analyses and database searches using Geneious and other internal molecular biology and bioinformatics tools.
Communicate project status and initiatives with internal and external stakeholders via email and regular progress update meetings.
Candidates should have a MS/MA in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related discipline with 3-5 years experience, or BS/BA in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related discipline with 8-12 years of relevant industry or academic experience. Applicable industry experience desired.
Competencies and Qualifications:
Must have demonstrated ability to design recombinant protein expression and purification strategies using E. coli or alternative expression systems such as baculovirus or yeast to generate soluble protein. Experience operating automation equipment including a colony picker or liquid handler is a plus.
Experience with molecular characterization of proteins including native size/oligomeric state determination, protein-protein interactions, and conserved domain analysis.
Must have a knowledge of molecular biology methods including DNA purification, bacterial cell culture, PCR, seamless cloning techniques, plasmid isolation and quality techniques, and DNA sequencing.
Proficiency with modern molecular biology software tools. Strong preference for individuals with expertise using Geneious software.
Excellent data management skills and a demonstrated ability to manage large, structured datasets using Excel, Access, or JMP.
Familiarity with bioinformatic sequence analysis tools like BLAST and multiple sequence alignment software.
Ability to organize, analyze, and deliver information in a concise, accurate, and professional manner.
