Corteva Agriscience Research Associate - Genomics Technologies in Johnston, Iowa
We are looking for a responsible and highly motivated Research Associate to join our Genomics Technologies Team! Genomics Technologies in Applied Science & Technology (AST) at Corteva Agriscience is a research and technology support function accountable for the development and implementation of PCR-based screening assays and DNA sequencing applications across all Corteva Agriscience.
The PCR Analysis and Characterization (PAC) laboratory is a centralized analytical laboratory providing qualitative and quantitative PCR analysis to support Corteva scientists as they seek to improve various crops through conventional breeding and genetic engineering. The Genomics laboratory is a centralized next generation sequencing facility that utilizes short read and long read DNA sequencing technologies to support the Corteva organization. Both laboratories are world-class experts in DNA/RNA detection, quantitation and sequencing. We provide data in a rapid, cost effective and efficient manner. We partner with our colleagues to provide agile and flexible analytical solutions to answer their experimental questions. We produce high quality data that unequivocally fulfills the experimental design and answers the questions being asked.
Our vision for the future is a single receiving facility for the PAC and Genomics Labs. The Research Associate will serve as the key starting point for the laboratory processes by receiving samples into the laboratory and distributing them to the appropriate downstream parties. All other laboratory functions are dependent upon this position. The primary workload will consist of receiving racks of samples into the PAC Lab utilizing laboratory automation. Additional work may entail receiving samples for the Genomics Lab. Opportunities will exist to cross train in DNA isolation, tissue collection and process improvement activities.

Provide molecular support for the PAC and GT Group by:
Receive racks of samples into the laboratory, enter them into proprietary LIMS software and distribute them to the appropriate downstream parties
Manage a constantly changing workload appropriately and effectively to ensure timelines are met
Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
Ensure that all materials necessary for production are prepared properly, on time, and in a safe manner
Make detailed observations, analyze data and interpret results
Record information in proprietary and standard software applications
Perform tissue dissections to collect samples for DNA isolation and PCR analysis
Perform DNA isolations from multiple crop species and tissue types, including working with regulated transgenic plants, to meet the demand of multiple PCR and DNA sequence-based application pipelines
Continually look for process improvement opportunities and help the team to implement solutions
Responsible for the implementation of Good Laboratory Practice Standards as described in the GLPs and following the Good Laboratory Practice standards when required within the PAC group.
Maintain a Personnel Qualifications File or PQF as required by the GLPs.
Record keeping in equipment log books (inspections, routine, non-routine maintenance) when required.
Record data collection under the GLPs
Assist GLP technical leads when needed with developing or updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Keeps Managers informed of Good Laboratory Practice compliance issues.
Works with Quality Assurance personnel to assure Good Laboratory Practice compliance and to resolve compliance problems as needed.
Requirements – What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?
Bachelor of Science degree in biology, biotechnology, or related discipline
0 to 2 years of industry related experience required, or equivalent levels of relevant education and experience
Molecular biology experience and skills are a plus
Competency is aseptic technique is essential
Experience with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) is a plus
Attention to detail and ability to stay focused while performing repetitive tasks
Ability to work well with teams as well as independently
Candidates should possess a demonstrated ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills are required
Experience with problem solving and process improvement are a plus
Experience with computer systems and standard software programs
Self-motivated and goal oriented
