Job Overview/Summary

As part of the growing Engineering & Technology Team, the Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers, managing performance and growth. You will help cultivate our engineering culture, and implement sustainable best-practices. You will collaborate with our Product Team and other cross-functional teams to turn business problems into elegant technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspire, manage and lead a group of distributed engineers so they are happy, motivated and have opportunities for growth

  • Advocate and implement sustainable best-practices and develop a technical strategy that will guide both our short-term and long-term goals

  • Help to cultivate technical standards and foster a strong engineering culture

  • Take a hands-on approach to leadership and drive the team’s strategic direction

  • Help the team solve problems by providing context, but enabling the individual team members to lead their projects and initiatives

  • Challenge team members to design and implement solutions that push the bounds of current use cases and consider the future ways the platform may change

  • Promote a safe space for engineers to take risks, innovate and learn

Key Skills, Abilities and Experience Required

  • You can draw on substantial depth and breadth of management experience to lead and grow a team

  • You have solid experience leading the organizational and leadership challenges that come with scaling an engineering group

  • Technical knowledge and hands-on experience with implementation, design, monitoring, and troubleshooting in large scale distributed systems

  • Be a self-starter, curious and not afraid to ask when in doubt

  • Extensive working experience with our tech stack (ReactJS, NodeJS/Express, MongoDB)

  • Extensive working experience with git and exposure to various git workflows

  • Extensive working experience designing and implementing service-oriented architecture, micro-services and RESTful APIs

  • Extensive working experience designing and implementing various messaging patterns

  • Working experience in a CI/CD environment and knowledge of various build and release tools and processes

  • Previous experience working in e-commerce, preferably at a high growth company focused on scale

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; be comfortable explaining technical solutions to other engineers, as well as non-technical stake holders
