ABOUT POET BIOREFINING
Our 33 biorefining facilities produce 3 billion gallons of bioethanol, 14 billion pounds of Dakota Gold distillers grain animal feed and nearly 1 billion pounds of our Voila corn oil. That’s a lot of product! We also provide plant-based products like CO2 for the food and beverage industry and purified alcohol for use in products ranging from food and beverage ingredients and personal care products to cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer and industrial bioethanol. POET also produces JIVE, a product that contributes to more sustainable roadways by using plant-based ingredients to help recycle old asphalt. We also buy over 930 million bushels of corn per year from local producers. It is our role at POET Biorefining to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable operations at each facility.
The Plant Engineer is responsible for working closely with the management team to maintain plant operations and to implement system improvements. The Plant Engineer increases efficiencies of plant operations, maintains plant run time, implements system improvements, maintenance reliability, troubleshoots process problems, and considers cost factors. POET bioprocessing facilities operate on a 24 hour continuous schedule; the Plant Engineer must be available as needed.
DURING A TYPICAL DAY (IF THERE IS ONE)...
Complete and present data analysis of process information: create associated action plans and identify optimization needs.
Create and analyze production performance numbers for plant management and POET Plant Management.
Create capital request justifications for plant management.
Strive for efficiency in plant operations and minimize plant downtime.
Identify opportunities for plant improvements and works with POET Plant Management to implement continuous improvement projects.
Work with Operations Engineering Manager and Optimization support from Plant Management on operational/troubleshooting issues.
Assist with facility shutdown planning and execution with the management team.
Assist with creating annual strategic plan initiatives for the department.
Ensure that all city, county, state and federal regulations are being met at all times.
Develop and utilize historical database reports
Ensure that all plant policies are implemented and followed.
Write and coordinate procedures, and communicate to shift supervisors as necessary.
Facilitate communication between departments.
Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.
STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
Bachelor’s degree or greater in engineering required; chemical engineering degree preferred.
Experience in an operating processing plant environment such as grain processing or chemical processing beneficial.
Prior project management experience preferred.
Prior operations and maintenance management experience preferred.
Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.
You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.

The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
Specific physical requirements may include:
Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.
Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.
Data entry while seated for greater than one (1) hour.
Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day.
Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.
Working at heights, in confined spaces and at temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees.
Standing for extended periods of time.
Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Using hand and power tools.
