Position Purpose & Summary

Direct accountability, leadership and oversight of maintenance staff, including planners, coordinators, administrators and internal and external crafts to achieve reliability objectives for an oilseed crush plant, biodiesel facility, vegetable oil refinery, packaging facility or similar combination. Responsible for increasing plant reliability, performance efficiency, minimizing unscheduled/unplanned plant interruptions and reducing costs associated to failures. Responsible for employee engagement by building positive working relationships and an environment where employees will want to offer their ideas. Develop and improve skill sets of internal craft resources. Execute correct application of reliability strategies such as equipment maintenance strategies, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), on-condition and predictive technologies (PdM), reliability centered maintenance (RCM), capitalized asset replacement, craft skills development, planning, scheduling, warehousing and purchasing processes, kaizen, precision maintenance and cause analysis with the purpose to prevent functional failure of assets. Expected execution of aligned reliability practices will reduce operating cost while improving overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and asset utilization by identifying and correcting early onset of failures and eliminating root causes. This position will supervise, manage and coordinate the execution of the maintenance schedule ensuring safety, quality and precision while maximizing craft efficiency by preparing and ensuring the equipment is ready and all parts, special tools, equipment and permits are available before crafts people are deployed. Troubleshoot equipment failures and oversee coordination of proactive and reactive activities on a day-to-day basis. This position will review all completed work orders for completeness and craft feedback as well as possible improvements in repair techniques, materials of construction, or other activities.

Principal Accountabilities

40% Supervision of crafts persons and reliability support staff, performance management and skills enhancement process. Provide coaching and feedback to develop the entire team's leadership capabilities and job specific skills. Provide regular group and individual discussions.

15% Stabilize, optimize, & manage equipment maintenance strategies. Strategies may be developed internally to the facility or are driven from a corporate level. These strategies are developed and implemented to improve the overall reliablity of the facility.

15% Lead, supervise and coordinate daily proactive, reactive and modifications work. This includes work performed by both internal and external resources. This work should be managed from the initial identification process to completion of the work.

10% Manage & optimize MRO purchasing, inventory and warehousing activities by deploying any of the businesses new process strategies and sustaining current activities. This will include determining any facility challenges, working towards root causes, and lead the implementation of the appropriate changes. Use the current resources (internal to the facility and external) to review metrics around purchasing, inventory, and warehousing to identify potential challenges in the workflow.

10% Cause analysis investigation and defect elimination processes. Active participation in determining the root causes and leading the implementation of any changes that either prevent or eliminate further occurrences of the failure.

10% Reliability improvement engineering and capitalized asset replacement. Work with Facility Superintendent and Regional Reliability Engineer to develop plan for the activities and resources needed to improve asset reliability.


Minimum requirements:

  • High-School diploma

  • Minimum five (5) years maintenance managementexperience or production management experience including direct reports and/ormanaging contractors

  • Minimum three years experience utilizingmaintenance/reliability strategies (planning, scheduling, cause analysis,predictive maintenance technologies, Reliability Excellence, RCM, etc.) andrelated tools/metrics

  • Ability to develop and manage good workingrelationships with internal departments (production, sales, logistics,accounting), contractors, suppliers, inspectors and customers

  • Strong mechanical, automation and electricalknowledge and aptitude

  • Ability to take off-hour calls and rotate on call accountability with facilitystaff as necessary

  • Strong understanding of local, state and federalrequirements along with ability to apply Cargill's policies and procedures inthe areas of safety, environmental, and food/feed safety

  • Strong organizational, written and verbalcommunication skills

  • Ability to speak candidly and provideconstructive feedback

  • Ability to make independent decisions

  • Demonstrated effective systematic problemsolving skills

  • Ability to lead, manage, and implement change

  • Proficient leading, developing, and engaginghourly work force

Preferred qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or technicaldiscipline

  • Five years maintenance management experience

  • Failure cause analysis experience

  • RCM/FMEA experience

  • Budget preparation and analysis experience

  • Experience in a USDA/FDA regulated food or feedprocessing facility

  • Lean manufacturing experience

  • SMRP/CMRP Certification

  • Working knowledge of predictive maintenancetechnology (vibration, ultrasound, infrared, oil analysis, motor circuitanalysis, non-destructive testing, etc.)

  • Advanced computer skills (MS Word, Excel,Access, Project, computerized maintenance management system and SAP orequivalent enterprise resource planning software)

  • Planning, supply procurement and warehousing,and scheduling experience

  • Workingknowledge of production equipment
