POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLARRequisition # 3379Position BasicsAdvertising Ends on:Monday, May 31st, 2021Advertising Started on:Tuesday, September 8th, 2020College:College of Liberal Arts and SciencesDepartment:Health and Human PhysiologySalarySalary:$52,704.00 to CommensuratePosition DetailsFull/Part Time Status:Full TimePercent Time:100%Position Description:The Integrative Laboratory of Applied Physiology and Lifestyle Medicine in the Department of Health and Human Physiology at the University of Iowa, led by Nathaniel Jenkins, PhD, is looking to hire a postdoctoral scholar on a start-up funded, two-year position, with flexible starting dates available throughout 2021. We are seeking someone who is compassionate, humble, curious, and collaborative to work with the existing team to establish a new laboratory at the UI with a focus on topics related to human metabolic, vascular and autonomic function in response to exercise training, early-life adversity, and/or nutraceutical or nutritional interventions. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and conducting clinical research protocols including data collection, analyzing data, preparing and presenting abstracts and manuscripts, assisting with grant applications, developing postdoctoral grant fellowships and/or career development awards, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. There are also plentiful opportunities to establish complementary lines of research in a highly collaborative environment within the department and in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC).The position is available beginning January 2021, with a negotiable start date thereafter.Highly-motivated candidates with the following profile are encouraged to apply.Questions about the position can be directed to Nathaniel Jenkins at The applicant must hold a PhD in Physiology, Integrative Biology, Exercise Physiology, or related field at the time of the appointment. Experience with exercise and metabolic testing and vascular and autonomic measurements is preferred, and ability to perform or desire to learn microneurography is desirable. Review of applications will begin November 15, 2020 and continue until the position is filled.Education Requirement:PhD or MD/PhD degree in human physiology, integrative physiology, exercise physiology, kinesiology, nutrition or a related field at the time of appointmentRequired Qualifications:Existing track record of peer-reviewed scientific journal publications in the domain of human physiology, broadly construed with proficient writing ability;Experience with IRB procedures;Highly motivated, have strong attention to detail, independent ability to troubleshoot problems, and follow projects through to completion (publication);Able to work and learn independently and motivated to contribute to the wider research mission of the lab;Ability to coordinate, organize, and lead clinical trials, especially those employing exercise or nutrition-based interventions;Well-organized and able to coordinate, interact with, and desire to help mentor a team of graduate and undergraduate students;Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills;Committed to developing a welcoming and inclusive laboratory culture;Desirable Qualifications:Strong laboratory experience in human vascular, autonomic, and/or exercise physiology research.
