Purfoods Project Engineer in Grinnell, Iowa
The Project Engineer will lead the development and execution of manufacturing plant capital projects including scope, schedule, budget, procurement, installation and start-up. The project engineer also provides technical leadership for processing, packaging, utility and facility systems.
Provide overall project management of scope development, budget, system design, equipment sizing and selection, schedule, construction, installation, start-up, check-out, and closeout
Lead system design development for unit operations which includes improvements to existing equipment using appropriate technical evaluation and involvement
Pro-actively lead collaboration with cross-functional partners to develop margin improvement and technical innovation opportunities
Conduct and/or manage experiments, trials, and analyses to validate and advance technical opportunities
Partner with Procurement to source, obtain quotes, and negotiate per desired specifications (evaluate submissions with team and management for approval)
Provide effective communication and documentation of work including technical plans, experimental reports, financial analysis, and management updates.
Communicate status and issues regarding project activity on a continual basis
Work with R&D and Food Safety/Quality to identify appropriate system requirements
Offers engineering support and troubleshooting assistance to the cross functional plant and company teams
Provide innovative technical solutions required to meet business objectives with emphasis on productivity
Provide support to annual capital planning process, which may include development and management of the capital program for the facility
Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and new vendors, suppliers, and contractors
Utilize Continuous Improvement tools, including but not limited to Early Management, Specialized Maintenance, Autonomous Maintenance, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Induced Failure Testing, and support CI efforts
This position will be based at and work in Grinnell, IA on a daily basis
Ability to travel up to 10 - 20%, depending on project priorities
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technical/Scientific Discipline or equivalent experience
Minimum 3 years of relevant engineering experience within a culture of continuous process improvement
Proficiency with CAD software for drawing creation and editing
Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&ID, layout, equipment and fabrication drawings
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with Mass balance process flows and calculations
Experience with fluid ingredient, dry ingredient, and/or package handling within manual and automated systems
Experience working with multi trade-based vendors/contractors
Familiarity with Continuous Improvement tools and processes
Experience in plant operations and industrial environments understanding equipment design and impacts to materials, labor, and work processes
5+ years of relevant engineering experience
Experience with 3A Sanitary Design Standards
Experience leading large multi-discipline projects
Knowledge of electrical and controls systems
Knowledge of utility (steam, water, air, NH3, etc.) design and impacts on the process
Experience managing procurement and contracts for Capital Equipment and Professional Services
Regularly required to use hands to feel, grab, or operate objects, tools, and controls while reaching with hands and arms
Frequently required to stand, communicate, and listen.
Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Able to perform repetitive movements
Able to work in variable temperatures (cold/hot)
