Stellar Industries Inc Manufacturing Manager - Second Shift Support in Garner, Iowa

The Manufacturing Manager - Second Shift is responsible for the processes and leadership to support the flow of information and materials through the production facilities (with the workforce) in a safe and productive manner. This person will act as a liaison between the First Shift Manufacturing Managers and the Second Shift Supervisors directly involved in production to carry out the scheduled “plan”. They will be expected to identify, understand, and resolve issues in a timely and objective manner and to report back into first shift effectively – communication skills are critical.

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but will serve as a coach and mentor to second shift leadership positions and other departments. This position will, however, manage production departments when other manufacturing managers or second shift production supervisors are absent.

  • Work with manufacturing managers and management to evaluate and sustain efficient and productive manufacturing processes.

  • Confer with plant personnel to implement operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions.

  • Monitor, support, and utilize the internal shift sheet program for employee feedback. Act as technical expert for problem solving and driving change.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and recommend improvements to the flow of information that supports the manufacturing process.

  • Confer with Design and Manufacturing Engineering teams to determine and sustain appropriate workflow processes.

  • Recommend revisions to methods of operation, material handling, equipment layout, or other process changes to improve safety, quality, delivery, and/or cost performance.

  • Drive standardization & collaboration across shift teams and departments.

  • Assist with capital projects, initial needs assessment through final installation and process implementation.

  • Consider application of environmental, health, and safety standards where applicable.

  • Provide clear direction to fellow employees in a motivational manner.

  • Search for ways to reduce waste and increase efficiency through process improvement initiatives.

  • Track and report process improvements, including cost savings and benefits.

  • Maintain active role in internal continuous improvement teams.

  • Act as a positive role model for all co-workers.

  • Promote a productive and non-disruptive work ethic within the company.

  • Continuously promote and foster a culture of working safety.

  • Communicate fully with all levels of the organization in a prompt, complete, candid, and clear manner.

Preferred Experience

  • MRP Systems, specifically Epicor experience preferred.

  • Should be familiar with the automotive industry and truck up fititng.

  • Production practices and best methods.

Skills Required

  • Computer Proficient with the ability to work fluently with Microsoft Office Suite.

Education and Experience

  • Technical degree, Business management or related field is preferred.

  • Equivalent experience/education combination will be considered.

  • A minimum of 5 years related experience is required.

Additional Requirements

  • Company sponsored continuing education may be required.

  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
