    ABOUT POET INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

    JOB SUMMARY

    This position will support our client base at POET managed plants both on-site and via remote machine access. This support is defined as PC work performance by installing, maintaining and supporting hardware and software; preparing clients; developing and writing procedures for installation, use, and troubleshooting of desktop/laptop hardware and software; applying knowledge of computer software and hardware to resolve user issues; providing users with guidance in the proper use of standard desktop software tools; communicating technical issues with team members to research and implement solutions; coordinating priorities with team members to ensure that the issues with highest priority are completed first and that all team members are kept up to date on the status of any particular issue through the frequent use of the Help Desk trouble ticketing system; escalating complex or high impact issues/events to other team members or support groups in a timely and appropriate manner; assisting with the creation of and upkeep of accurate mobile / computer asset documentation; maintaining a good working relationship with the network support team members to ensure that impacts of changes to the network are clearly understood; communicating all changes to appropriate IT management; keeping skills in relevant technologies up to date and taking steps to constantly improve those skills.

    Paid travel expenses and use of company fleet vehicle are provided. Travel is scheduled in advance. This position travels 50-75% to provide IT Field Services to POET locations up to 300 mile radius in Iowa and Missouri; Laddonia, MO, Macon, MO, Fairbank, IA and Shell Rock, IA

    A TYPICAL DAY COULD INCLUDE

    Personal Computing Hardware/Software

  • Requisition, receive, inventory, configure, issue, install, maintain, repair, modify, upgrade, secure, and dispose of employee personal computing devices.

  • Maintain all laptops and desktops such as, software upgrades, disk management, driver updates, configure/install new machines, and make upgrade/replacement recommendations.

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and remove computing software.

  • Escalate server, network, compatibility, and design issues to the appropriate team member.

  • Participate in planning, forecasting, and vendor relations related to POET Infrastructure

  • Coordinate Plant Services team requisition, ordering and billing functions with Biorefineries.

    Telecommunications Hardware and Services

  • Requisition, receive, inventory, configure, issue, maintain, upgrade, secure, and dispose of telecommunication equipment, such as cellular, stationary and mobile.

  • Work with service providers to establish and maintain appropriate customer services.

    Video Surveillance Support

  • Solid understanding of video surveillance concepts and systems.

  • Manage all technology pertaining to various camera systems, motion detectors and recording devices utilized in plant physical security.

  • Plan, coordinate, install, configure, and maintain video surveillance systems.

    General Support

  • Adhere to all security practices and procedures to safeguard company resources.

  • Document instructions, procedures, and licensing as needed.

  • Provide a high level of service while supporting end users. Support includes laptops, desktops, servers, tablet PCs, thin clients, smartphones and cell phones, IP phones, and voicemail systems.

  • Successfully troubleshoot issues both independently and in collaboration with all available resources.

  • Work with technical support team members from external organizations to troubleshoot and repair hardware, software, and telecommunications systems.

  • Manage internal requests for system issues or enhancements by prioritizing issues, communicating status to affected parties, and updating Help Desk trouble ticketing system. The Help Desk trouble ticketing system is utilized to track user issues and provide IT with metrics to track user satisfaction. As a member of the IT department the IT Support Specialist will have specific metrics in which to measure performance.

  • Create and maintain appropriate documentation concerning processes and procedures associated with support.

  • Provide routine and emergency support to team members in-person, over the telephone, and/or through remote support systems.

  • Assist other IT personnel in the completion of projects as assigned by the appropriate supervisor, manager, or the Chief Information Officer.

  • Communicate frequently and effectively with end users as well as other support teams.

  • Limited Network Admin duties: resetting passwords, unlocking accounts, setting file permissions, rebooting servers, performing hardware and software maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis.

  • Work in conjunction and at direction of network administrator to address and resolve computer network

  • Provide initial and on-going training to newly hired IT Plant Support Technicians during orientation period.

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and support to other IT Plant Support Technicians as required or requested.

  • Frequent travel to remote sites with overnight stays may be required to support operations.

  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.

    STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Information Technology degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.

  • Working knowledge of Windows based computer systems; Office automation, computer hardware and software applications; local area networks.

  • Specific knowledge and experience with Windows Operating system based PCs and laptops; Experience manipulating users in Active Directory; Familiarity with TCP/IP protocols, phone and network servers as well as other related hardware.

  • Troubleshoot PC, Printer and non-application support software problems until resolution is achieved.

  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, other team members, and vendors.

  • Install and upgrade hardware and desktop software.

  • Supporting video surveillance equipment and systems.

  • Supporting video conferencing equipment.

  • 7 to 10 Years’ experience supporting the above competencies.

  • Must have a valid Drivers License.

  • Willing to travel with semi-frequent overnight stays.

  • Demonstrated competency and high level of understanding of computer systems, TCP/IP based networks, 802.x standards, video surveillance systems.

  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability and willingness to learn new software applications.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change.
