Hirschbach Motor Lines LAN Administrator Assistant in Dubuque, Iowa


The LAN Administrator Assistant is responsible for supporting the computer users of Hirschbach Motor Lines. This includes working directly with the computer users at the Dubuque and East Dubuque locations as well as remotely supporting computer users at all other locations. This position is the first level of support for basic computer, printer, network and software application problems reported by Hirschbach computer users.


  • Configure personal computers to operate in the Hirschbach Local Area Network (LAN).

  • Load software programs onto personal computers.

  • Maintain LAN database to ensure all LAN hardware and software is accounted for.

  • Participates in Helpdesk duties, working to resolve problems reported to the IT department, in the most timely and efficient manner.

  • Work with PC users in all departments during troubleshooting and installation of PCs.


  • Acts as the initial response person for the I.T. Help Desk.

  • Performs troubleshooting of PC hardware and software problems reported by computer users.

  • Establishes and maintains Active Directory accounts and AS400 profiles.

  • Installs and troubleshoots network and personal printers.

  • Installs and troubleshoots VOIP telephone handsets.

  • Other duties as assigned by the I.T. Technical Manager.


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of:

  • Windows desktop operating systems.

  • Microsoft Office applications.

  • Current equipment and technologies in use.

  • Basic Active Directory functions for Users and Computers.

  • Ability to:

  • Communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing.

  • Establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust and credibility.

  • Perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
