MidAmerican Energy Company Tax Accountant-Compliance/Senior Tax Accountant-Compliance in Des Moines, Iowa

This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.

The tax accountant is responsible for preparing the federal and state income tax returns, quarterly estimated tax payments, monthly tax provisions and associated supporting work papers for the separate affiliated groups and partnerships.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)

Participate as a member of the compliance team to prepare federal and state income tax returns. (60%)

Prepare U.S. monthly tax provisions, tax account roll forwards and effective rate reconciliations. Maintain deferred tax reconciliations and prepare annual "tax return to provision" true-ups. Prepare the tax information necessary for the accurate completion of quarterly and annual financial statements and perform other tax accounting procedures as necessary. (20%)

Tax forecasting and preparation of quarterly federal and state income tax estimated payments. (10%)

Prepare tax calculations for annual budget and 10-year plan. (5%)

Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (0-5%)

Perform tax research and support tax accounting policies and procedures. (0-5%)

Provide guidance and technical leadership to staff.

Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.

Bachelor's degree in accounting.

Four or more years of related work experience, two of which are in income tax accounting with a certified public accountant designation or a graduate business degree. If no CPA designation or graduate business degree, six or more years of related work experience, two of which are in income tax accounting is required for the tax accountant level.

Six or more years of related work experience, four of which are in income tax accounting with a certified public accountant designation or a graduate business degree. If no CPA designation or graduate business degree, eight or more years of related work experience, four of which are in income tax accounting is required for the senior tax accountant level.

Strong knowledge of tax law and procedures, tax research skills, familiarity with various tax returns and schedules.

Strong accounting and financial statement knowledge.

Strong computer software skills.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
