Principal Software Engineer (Possible Remote Work-From-Home Opportunity) in Des Moines, Iowa
As a Software Engineer in our Retirement & Income Solutions area, you'll solve business problems through technology. This area supports the many facets of our Participant Onboarding experience that help retirement plan participants have the confidence to save enough, achieve their financial goals, rollover, and make investment elections with ease.
In this position, you'll need to be flexible, adaptable, collaborative and willing to play various roles within a scrum team to provide ongoing support our systems and deliver innovative technical solutions.
Here are a few examples of the kinds of things you'll do:
Deliver customer centric solutions that incorporate desired capabilities, security, scalability, and performance.
Work within agile methodology and participate in agile ceremonies like sprint planning, backlog grooming and daily stand-ups.
Collaborate with your scrum team to design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve software within Java and Mainframe environments
Solve interesting and complex problems to create a positive customer experience
Collaborate with architecture, technical engineers, and other roles on application design and architecture.
Own continuous improvement in yourself, your team and the solutions you build
Develop maintainable and high quality software by integrating automation tests and following best practices as laid out by the team.
Associate's or bachelor's degree (preference in a computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field) or equivalent experience required, plus 2+ years of relevant work experience
Java programming experience required
Strong desire to learn and take initiative
Ability to effectively collaborate in a team environment and with other teams
Ability to influence and participate in code reviews
Ability to communicate at both a technical and business level
Ability to break down larger work efforts and manage multiple tasks
Basic knowledge of insurance and financial services products a plus
Basic planning, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making and communication skills required
Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
Must have the desire to learn new technology and continuously grow
Will be required to provide on-call support
Additional preferred technical experience:
Any Cobol experience is a plus
Automation tooling experience
Willing to consider at the next level depending on qualifications, experience, and skillset.
