What you'll do
As a Software Engineer in our Group Benefit business area, you’ll be able to work with guidance on software development/solutions and solve business problems through technology. With guidance, conduct analysis and development, elicit requirements, write correct and clean coding, automated testing, debugging, documentation, quality assurance review, implementation and maintenance. Able to work with guidance on multiple layers of the solution if needed. Participates in technical design of features.
Here are a few examples of the kinds of things you’ll do:
Work with guidance on multiple layers of the solution if needed. Growing expertise in at least one large area of the code/solution with a high-level understanding of other components. Ensure established controls, policies, regulations and recommend mitigation strategies are followed during development. Ensure system is secure and meets policy and regulatory requirements during development.
Assist in communicating technical concepts to business stakeholders as well as communicate business objectives to the technical team.
Participates in technical design of features with guidance. Focus on attaining expertise in one or more technical areas.
Perform other job-related duties or special projects as required.
Stay current and engaged on industry trends.
Take on tasks of increasing complexity, learn quickly and make steady progress without the need for constant significant feedback from more senior engineers. Own small to medium features from technical design through completion.
With guidance, conduct analysis and development, elicit requirements, write correct and clean coding, automated testing, debugging, documentation, quality assurance review, implementation and maintenance. Understand how work fits into the larger project and identify problems with requirements. Apply changes to follow security policies and standards with guidance.

Associate's or bachelor's degree in a computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field.
2+ years’ work experience. (Including the ability to write test scripts for automation, etc.)
Proven experience as an IT professional.
Ability to obtain certification(s) in an IT related field is a plus.
Basic knowledge of insurance and financial services products preferred.
Successful candidates will have the following:
Basic planning, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making and communication skills required.
Proficiency with database applications, knowledge of mainframe, distributed and/or web programming language.
Basic leadership skills preferred. Excellent time management skills preferred.
Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
Must have the desire to learn new technology and continuously grow.
Ability to work on cross-functional teams and collaborate with both It and non-IT partners.
Some travel may be required, including overnight stays.
May be required to provide on-call support.
Will consider a the Software Engineer II or Software Engineer III based on experience.
