Senior Oracle Database Administrator

Primary location: Glastonbury, CT

Secondary locations: US- Remote

What does an exceptional Senior Oracle Database Administrator do?

We are seeking a Senior Oracle Database Administrator to join our Database Technical Services team. You will become a key player within the team and contribute to our pursuit of always seeking innovation and creating with purpose for our clients. Our Database Technical Services team offers and provides consulting, implementation, and managed services to clients in the financial industry. As a Senior Oracle DBA, you will be a part of small but growing team of hardworking people responsible for customizing and implementing Fiserv’s flagship product, the DNA™ platform. As a Senior Oracle Database Administrator, you can look forward to:

  • Working as a consultant to deliver Oracle Professional Services to our clients and partners.

  • Collaborating with our triage and development organization to identify Oracle related improvements in relation to the DNA Product Suite.

  • Implementing Oracle database systems with High Availability in mind.

  • Implementing and secure Oracle database systems adhering to well-known standards like PCI DSS, CIS, STIG, etc.

  • Performing Oracle database patching and major release upgrades with near-zero downtime.

  • Database capacity planning related to database growth and system utilization, trend analysis and predicting future database resource requirements.

  • Addressing complex issues involving backup and disaster recovery, multi tenancy for applications designed for very large databases.

  • Conducting Oracle Health Assessments and address findings and recommendations.

  • Monitoring and seek to improve operational efficiencies for our clients and internal database team.

  • Acting as a project manager on assigned projects for implementations.

  • Supporting all environments from development to production with databases that are part of internal or end-user applications.

  • Improving database integrity through quality assurance and change control processes.

  • Analyzing existing database applications for performance tuning, alerting and monitoring.

  • Partnering with Application Developers to integrate efforts with relational databases, maintaining best practices in database administration, design, implementation, capacity planning and on-site support.

  • Supporting existing hosted production database environments including the following related tasks: software installation, patch installation, upgrades, query writing, configuration, database creation, security, system monitoring and tuning.

  • Providing disaster recovery planning, implementation, backup and recovery.

  • Responding and acting on trouble tickets, performing change and deployment tasks.

  • Performing other duties as required to monitor production environments.

  • Performing primarily in UNIX\LINUX\AIX Windows but also Windows UNIX\LINUX\AIX environments.

  • Documenting standard operational procedures.

  • Supporting application deployments and provisioning efforts for database systems during business and non-operating hours, including 24X7 on-call rotation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business or equivalent degree.

  • 8-10 years experience working as an Oracle Database Administrator in an enterprise environment.

  • Knowledge of Oracle 11g, 12c and 19c internals and ASM.

  • Knowledge and experience with database security (PCI DSS) and auditing solutions

  • Hands on experience with RAC, Data Guard and multitenant database.

  • Knowledge and experience with analyzing and interpreting AWR, ASH and ADDM reports

  • Proficient with automation of maintenance tasks using PL/SQL and scripting tools such as shell script, Perl or Python.

  • Experience with Oracle 11g/12c and database upgrades.

  • Experience with database monitoring and management tools such as Oracle EM Cloud Control and/or Quest Foglight.

  • Operating system knowledge (Unix, Linux and/or Windows)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree with experience in applicable field.

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)

  • Understanding, implementation and troubleshooting of Oracle Database technology including RAC, Dataguard, ASM, RMAN.

  • Oracle Database scalability, reliability, and security both on-premises and in the cloud.

  • Experience with Oracle Database 11g, 12c, 18c, and/or 19c.

  • Exposure to both single-purpose databases and converged databases.

  • Experience collaborating in global and regional distributed teams.

  • A foundational understanding of public cloud models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and providers (AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud)

  • B2B Client facing experience in requirement gathering and data analysis regarding customer software modifications.

  • Experience with other database platforms is a plus (MS SQL, MySQL, DB2, PostgreSQL, etc.)

  • Exposure to Banking Host Data Systems and Core Processing Functionality.

On Call Support: Rotational to include some nights and weekends required throughout the year for production code deploys and team support schedule.
