Kemin Industries Senior Customer Laboratory Service Associate in Des Moines, Iowa
The primary purpose of this position is to execute and support customer laboratory service (CLS), application research, and to evaluate new methods for implantation in the lab. Responsibilities will include the development of project protocols to demonstrate effectiveness of all products in potential customers’ operations. This position will also be actively involved with active communication and support of Sales, Marketing and Technical Services Managers with project review and providing education support of results and data interpretation.

What you’ll be doing:
Providing microbiology support of commercial projects for primarily Food Safety products, with Palatants and Health and Nutrition microbiology support as needed
Communicating with Commercial team and collaborating on the design of application research projects.
Developing advance methods including microbial challenge studies, method validation, and formulation, as applicable.
Performing advanced problem solving, microbial data analysis and interpretation of results.
Consistently exercising independent discretion and judgement.
Coordinating projects and oversight of project teams, as applicable.
Communicating product support and providing technical recommendations to customers (internal and external).
Independently generating test protocols.
Technical report writing and review.
Understanding and supporting Kemin products and services, as applicable.
Training others on protocols and procedures/methods in accordance with SOPs.
Validating methods to fit within ISO 17025 requirements.
Writing and following SOP’s, Methods, basic GLP and Quality System requirements.
Attending and presenting at tradeshows, conferences; participating in customer meetings, as applicable.
Contributing to field trials, as applicable.
What we require of you:
Bachelor’s degree with 55-7 years of related experience OR Associates Degree with 7+ years of related experience OR PhD with 1+ years experience.
Degree must be in Microbiology and/or Food Science
Advanced statistics and/or basic chemometrics.
Must be experienced and skilled in microbiological techniques, ability to work using aseptic technique and to work at biosafety level 2.
Knowledge of food products and pathogenic and spoilage organisms likely to be encountered
Experience isolating spoilage microorganisms (mold, yeast, bacteria, spores) and pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella, Listeria and E. coli from a variety of food products, pet foods, and pet food ingredients including low moisture/high fat foods
Experience in identify microorganisms such as mold, yeast and bacteria using different techniques
Advanced computer skills and MS Office knowledge and experience. Advanced skills with Excel including ability to write formulas and generate graphs.
Must have a solid understanding and adherence to the Servant Leadership philosophy.
Strong communication skills (written and oral).
