Graham Construction Company Senior Accountant in Des Moines, Iowa


REPORTS TO: Accounting Manager

PURPOSE: The purpose of this job is to support the accounting department by performing multiple accounting tasks including billing, contract/job setup, accounts payable, journal entries and Excel tasks. The position requires basic knowledge of accounting principles and accounting functions. This individual is responsible for accurate entry of items into accounts receivable, general ledger, job costs and accounts payable.


  • Manage customer billings on AIA payment applications and standard invoices.

  • Oversee daily cash receipts process.

  • Document and maintain certificates of insurance.

  • Collect trade partner/subcontractor lien waivers and manage lien waiver tracking.

  • Setup new jobs and contracts.

  • Assist with processing trade partners’ payment applications, material invoices and G&A invoices.

  • Serve as the secondary processor for vendor check generation, lien waiver creation, and timely distribution of payments.

  • Create and process new vendors and collect W-9s.

  • Calculate and create various costing spreadsheets.

  • Work closely with leadership to review and monitor internal controls and identify and/or address modifications where necessary.

  • Represent the company at all times in a positive and professional manner to enhance the company’s image with current and prospective clients as well as the general public.

  • Demonstrate exceptional communication and presentation skills including verbal and written.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Ability to access and accurately input information.

  • Must have knowledge of basic accounting principles (i.e. journal entries, debits, credits, etc.) and accounting functions.

  • Ability to work independently and complete duties and projects with little direct supervision.

  • Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting deadlines.

  • Must be proficient with Excel, Word and Outlook applications.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (equivalent experience considered)

Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years accounting experience.

CPA preferred. Construction experience preferred.
