Trinity Health Lab Assistant: Monday - Friday in DES MOINES, Iowa

Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Follows established procedures and policies including infection control and blood borne pathogens.

· Performs specimen processing including proper identification, aliquoting, special handling and required documentation.

· Meets defined workload productivity standards.

· Supports and utilizes LEAN principles and standard work.

· Maintains accurate filing system for manual test requisitions.

· Works proficiently with laboratory information systems and personal computers.

· Follows established procedures and policies to obtain optimal test turn-around-times.

· Participates in teaching peers.

· Handles incoming and outgoing telephone calls utilizing good customer service skills and knowledge of the laboratory.

· Fully understands and is committed to providing quality service to all clients both internal and external.

· Responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information.

· Demonstrates the following customer service/interpersonal skills:

· Takes personal responsibility for work, actions, and attitudes.

· Respects patients, peers, clients, students, physicians, service representatives and other hospital staff.

· Demonstrates positive and effective communication skills.

· Cooperates with peers and other hospital staff to build and maintain an effective healthcare team.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

· Maintains supply inventory and orders additional supplies as needed.

· Maintains files for blocks and slides in Histology

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Medical terminology and experience preferred.

· Computer skills required.
