We are growing our Processor team in Des Moines, IA where we do the legwork of analyzing member insurance policies and provide quality control for our Customer Service Associates!

Reporting Relationships: You report to the Processor Leader; you have no direct reports.

You should also have:

--A high school diploma – and preferably some college coursework

--One year of related work experience in a service-oriented position

--General knowledge of insurance policies and practices, preferably commercial processing or services support

Job Summary

A typical day in the life of a Commercial Lines Processor:

--Reviewing and analyzing commercial, farm, and/or specialty lines risks against established procedures and best practices

--Performing rating/coding for quotes, new business, renewals, and policy changes

--Ensuring submitted document compliance and accuracy by communicating with agents, underwriting, and applicants

--Maintaining knowledge of state-specific processing procedures, systems, pricing guidelines, eligibility, and team concepts

--Referencing coding manuals for appropriate premium calculations and policy master file revisions

--Correcting errors or recognizing premium refund instances

--Checking production reports for accuracy

--Jumping in to complete other tasks as needed

Training & Work Schedule

Your career at Nationwide begins on December 3rd with a 11-week award-winning training program that is designed to set you up for success and confidence in your new role.

Your training schedule will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. followed by a regular work schedule, which will be Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Job Conditions

A fun office environment where extended hours of sitting and typing at your PC, complete with dual monitors, are the norm. Occasional deadlines and member needs may warrant schedule flexibility and overtime. On the odd occasion, you may have to lift something more than 20 pounds.

Job Description

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Supervisor/Manager.


  • Reviews and processes assigned commercial and/or specialty lines risks for accounts in accordance with established procedures and Best Practices.

  • Performs necessary rating and coding for quotes, new business, renewals, and policy changes, reinstatements, rejections, cancellations and audit changes.Reviews submitted materials for completeness and accuracy and may follow up with agent or underwriter for missing/inaccurate information.

  • Maintains working knowledge of state-specific processing procedures and processing systems, pricing guidelines and eligibility and team concepts.

  • Utilizes available resources needed to determine appropriate premium calculations and policy master file revisions.

  • Maintains a consistent quality and quantity of work at prescribed standards.Identifies and prioritizes own work according to prescribed standards.Reviews and corrects validity errors for assigned production.

  • Recognizes premium refund situations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education: High school diploma; prefer some post-high school rated coursework.

Experience: One year of related work experience, preferably in a service orientated or processing support function.

Knowledge: General knowledge of insurance policies and practices.

Skills/Competencies: Strong skills in typing, computer navigation, time management, attention to detail, reading comprehension.

Overtime Eligibility: Eligible (Non Exempt).
