General Electric On- Site Lead Field Engineer - Metals in Des Moines, Iowa

Role Summary:

The Lead Field Service – Resident Engineer will provide support, technical expertise and engineering solutions to support the metals business within the Power Conversion. In this role, you will own the resolution of post-sales technical customer issues at customer sites with accuracy, quality, and timeliness in order to meet customer needs and business goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Lead Field Service – Resident Engineer, you will:

  • Support trouble shooting of installed products at customer site, including accurate and timely settlement of all warranty claims from assigned customers

  • Execute on site project management and technical leader duties to resolve customer issues and provide customer satisfaction

  • Coordinate additional opportunities to serve the customer with the customer service team, parts, other FSE’s, repair services, sales, and product engineering teams

  • Advise the customer of recommended upgrades, parts, and service opportunities to improve customer productivity and sell GE parts / services

  • Coordinate maintenance activities for the customer and plan for inspections

  • Provide support to engineering teams working on customer CMU’s projects

  • Support the bidding process for the customer CMU’s projects

  • Identify new opportunities and develop effective offerings to improve in-service equipment reliability / availability

  • Develop presentations and provide training and instruction to customers on system operations

  • Promote sales of maintenance services

  • Perform other related engineering tasks to facilitate proper commissioning and customer satisfaction

  • Provide on call support in response to customer calls for service

  • Ensure appropriate response and service is provided to customer

  • Complete timely service reports and other administrative requirements

  • Support business growth opportunities and marketing campaigns

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college (OR Associate's Degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience in a customer facing role OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 10 years of experience in a customer facing role)

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience within an engineering environment

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with metal systems (automation, DC drives, AGC and Level 2)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability and willingness to travel and work overtime, as required

  • Ability and willingness to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and/or US Passport

Desired Characteristics:

  • Electronics, electrical and/or mechanical trouble shooting skills (hands-on approach)

  • Ability to learn software tool applications to support HMI and application changes

  • Strong computer skills with familiarity with MS Office, TCP / IP configuration

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings

  • Electrical maintenance experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to read and write in English

  • Ability to prioritize / organize work and meet deadlines

  • Ability to set and meet aggressive targets

  • Self-starter with minimal supervision required

  • Ability to work independently
