FANUC America is currently searching for asatellite Field Service Engineer in the Des Moines, IA area for our Minneapolis Service center to join our team.
This satellite position, reporting to our Maple Grove, MN office, will provide support to customers in Iowa, Eastern Nebraska, Southern MN, Southeast SD, and Western IL with on-site repair, troubleshooting and /or maintenance services for CNC’s and related system peripheral equipment.
As an incoming associate engineer you will learn our products, services, and what makes our customer service #1. Comprehensive on-the-job training and support, as well as 3 weeks of classroom training in our Chicagoland office is provided.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Provide maintenance and troubleshooting for CNCs, servo, spindle drive and motor products. Investigate customer complaints and perform analysis to determine the cause(s). Operate with consistent support of Supervisor/Manager.
Traveling to customer sites, with some overnight travel (approximately 5-6 nights per month).
Actively participate in on-the-job training and classroom instruction.
Understand and promote company goal of exceeding customer expectations while learning how to deal with customers.
Report quality problems to the appropriate manager/supervisor as they are encountered.
Control inventory as assigned.
Learn service operations, procedures and policies, including timely and accurate submission of required paperwork.
Maintain all company-provided equipment, including tools and company laptop.
Travel as required within company-provided direction and guidelines.
Able to travel by airplane to customer location or for training purposes/ meetings as needed; this may be domestic or international travel.
Physically able to drive to customer locations by car for periods up to 6 hours at a time. Travel may also be via train.
Ideal candidate will have the following experience, education and knowledge:
Two-year electronic/electrical degree or four year engineering degree, or equivalent training.
Technical school graduate or other graduate with some technical job history that translates well to the core competencies.
Ability to diagnose and problem-solve.
Ability to make preliminary selections and adaptation of engineering alternatives.
Ability to learn and absorb new ideas quickly and completely to keep current with changes in technology and methodologies.
Troubleshooting skills and diagnostic tools (see immediate bullet below).
Use of Tools includes: Digital volt meter, Milli Ohm Meter, Oscilloscope, Hand Tools: including screw driver, crescent wrench, allen wrench, etc., laptop, cell phone.
Very good, professional oral and written communication skills.
Decision making ability to determine appropriate course of action.
Flexibility, to include changes in the work schedule and travel to customer sites.
Ability to travel in a plane: domestic or international flights, or in a train, or in a car – which often includes driving up to 6 hours one-way.
Must be able to transport equipment and parts (weighing up to 75 pounds) to customer locations.
