Job Description

Coordinate the community college course and program approval process.

This includes:

  • Reviewing and evaluating program quality related to proposed new and modified community college credit programs and making recommendations regarding approval.

  • Overseeing the program and common course numbering management system and providing technical assistance to college staff. Coordinating the State of Iowa Curriculum System users’ group.

  • Providing guidance and technical assistance on state program quality requirements and expectations.

  • Assisting with the development of policy and guidance to enhance program quality.

    Provide leadership for the division’s program quality team and academic projects. Serve as liaison to community college academic leadership groups. Participate in division teams related to data and academic program quality for both arts and sciences and Career and Technical Education.

    Actively participate in the division’s academic core and transition work. Assist in responding to program quality issues including ad hoc work groups with college personnel.

    Assist with the state accreditation and equity processes for community colleges and career and technical program evaluation efforts.

    Assist with the production of reports and other resources which describe community college programming. Respond to requests for community college program data.

    8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday with some in and out-of-state travel, nights and weekends

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in community college teaching and administration.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on high-performing teams.

  • Experience managing complex projects.

  • Ability to relate effectively and with sensitivity to a diverse group of people.

  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with external partners.

  • Ability to work independently, moving projects forward with minimal supervision.

  • Intermediate to advanced skill in working with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience using data analysis and data systems to drive system improvement.

  • Experience synthesizing research to inform best practice in an educational setting.

  • Knowledge and experience with implementation of Iowa Code and Administrative Rule.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and five years of full-time post-graduate work experience in any one or a combination of the following areas:

a. Professional training, teaching, or counseling experience in an educational setting;

b. Professional administrative experience in an educational setting;

c. Professional personnel administration including such areas as job analysis, performance appraisal systems, selection devices, or labor relations;

d. Professional experience in a major technical program area utilized by the Iowa Department of Education or Board of Educational Examiners.

2) A combination of a total of five years of post-graduate education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited post-graduate college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience.

3) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree, possession of a valid Iowa Teaching Certificate, and three academic years of teaching and/or administrative experience in PK-12 and/or a post-secondary educational institution.
