ARAG North America Data Developer Intern in Des Moines, Iowa

ARAG is hiring a data developer intern! We are looking for a driven student to create data integrations, design data architecture, enhance our data warehouse and help modernize our technology by moving data from Adeptia to Talend.   • With guidance, develops applications that meet business requirements. Create scripts to build new database objects. Develop stored procedures, functions, packages, triggers and views.

  • Unit tests code to an acceptable defect level prior to handoff to QA and UAT.

  • Providing support, guidance and collaborating with other Data Developers to implement database design.

  • Actively participate in development and scrum team meetings by providing agenda items and input on discussion items. Addresses bugs with QA, plan schemas with developers, and respond quickly to other business needs and tickets.

  • Submit code for reviews and integrate suggestions into solution while meeting security standards necessary to pass the code review.

Production Support

  • Proactively monitor systems availability performance and capacity and suggest adjustments, as necessary.

  • Provide production support for applications and research root cause.

Additional Duties

  • Design logical and physical data models.

  • Maintain documentation and design papers.

  • Ability to meet established agreed upon time-frames.

  • Provide status updates to leader.

  • Employee development through active participation in educational opportunities, both technical and business opportunities.

  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, organization, time management and communication skills.


  • IDE development experience with industry standard tool such as Toad or PL/SQL Developer.

  • Experience with Oracle PL/SQL and database modelling. Ability to create packages, views, procedures, functions, triggers. Ability to create structures using referential integrity.

  • Strong background in data design, data workflow, data models, data quality, data integration, data standards, and design of solutions with complex business rules.

  • Experience with data warehousing ETL processes and reporting tools.

  • Experience mentoring and developing others.

  • Experience working with large data sets.

  • Proven experience working successfully on application development project teams.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Proficiency with complex data joins and database tuning.

  • Experience with business intelligence, reporting, and analytics platforms.

  • Experience with background job creation and management.

  • Experience working with DBA on configurations and hardware and software upgrades.

  • Ability to trouble-shoot and resolve issues at both a strategic and tactical level.

  • Proactive, self-starter with demonstrated ability to manage priorities through effective time management skils.

Education – Four-year college level education, or equivalent combination of education, experience and formal training in IT or a related field.

Experience – Minimum of internship or related IT experience.
