Job Summary:

The Actuarial Analyst III / Associate Actuary position provides analytical support to the Medicare Enterprise and Health Plan Leaders. Using restated financials, you will provide analytic and consultative support evaluating the financial performance and identifying the drivers. Developing strong relationships with Medicare Regional Leadership including Regional Presidents, Health Plan Leaders and Medical Directors, you will present findings to various levels of the Enterprise and Health Plans. Essentially, this position acts as a corporate liaison to Health Plans and as a strategic partner to management.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides Medicare Enterprise financial support in the analysis of medical expenses, medical expense trend, membership, revenue, medical loss ratio, and drill downs reports.

  • Provides Medicare Business Units and leaders with analysis of revenue and medical costs on a restated basis assisting Regional finance leaders with medical trend analysis and risks (trend anomalies, outliers, behaviors).

  • Develops and analyzes restated financial reports providing notations of performance deviations and anomalies.

  • Collaborates and coordinates with associates throughout the company to share ideas including plan cost-savings, opportunities, analysis techniques and models, data issues and general knowledge.

  • Independently develops sound models and analyses necessary to efficiently measure, understand, monitor and explain the company’s medical cost structure and restated financial results.

  • Validates Health Plan’s cost savings initiatives ensuring consistent and established analytical methods and standards, and provides ongoing support, including sizing and validation of Cost of Care Initiatives, to business unit leaders.

  • Presents models during workgroup calls and explains analyses to a diverse audience.

  • Support enterprise data platforms through testing, training and coordinating with Decision Support department.

  • Acts as end-user expert fielding questions from Corporate and Health Plan users.

  • Works closely with our business partners to help them understand the risks and impacts of medical policy decisions and other cost of care initiatives.

  • Works with and supports counterparts in other states and for the enterprise. May assist in training of actuarial trainees, analysts and specialists.

Qualifications for Actuarial Analyst III

  • Requires a BS/BA degree, preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

  • Required to have passed at least four Society of Actuaries (SOA) actuarial exams.

  • 3+ years related experience in broad-based analytical, managed care or provider environment.

  • Experience in managed healthcare analytics preferred.

  • Experience with Medicare analysis preferred.

  • Working knowledge of SQL strongly preferred.

  • Advanced Excel knowledge strongly preferred.

  • Or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Qualifications for Associate Actuary

  • Requires a BS/BA degree, preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

  • ASA required from the Society of Actuaries (SOA).

  • 4+ years related experience in broad-based analytical, managed care or provider environment.

  • Experience in managed healthcare analytics preferred.

  • Experience with Medicare analysis preferred.

  • Working knowledge of SQL strongly preferred.

  • Advanced Excel knowledge strongly preferred.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
