MidAmerican Energy Company Drafting Lead-High Voltage Engineering in Davenport, Iowa
*Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
The drafting lead provides leadership and vision for the high voltage engineering drafting services staff. The lead is responsible for drafting work for electrical engineering and other energy delivery departments. The lead directs the work of employees in various drafting disciplines including civil, electrical, telecommunications, architectural, landscape architectural, gas operations and right of way. The lead continuously adjusts the drafting schedule to meet the changing priorities of multiple customer groups. The lead investigates, recommends and implements new technology solutions to improve drafting services. The lead also recommends and implements policies affecting the drafting services group.
Provides overall leadership and vision to the drafting services group. Sets goals and objectives to meet customer needs. Assists with the recruitment and development of technical staff to achieve the skills and leadership necessary to meet requirements and prepare employees for greater responsibility. Fosters learning and collaborative environment within the department. (35%)
Leads efficient drafting for MidAmerican Energy Company¿s substations and the high voltage and distribution system. Schedules drafting work for multiple customer groups to meet construction project deadlines. Responds to unscheduled and often urgent drafting requests for many internal customers. Provides updated drawings to many internal customers to meet their safety and operational needs. (35%)
Develops and implements drafting policies, procedures, practices and standards. Investigates and implements process improvements and promotes safety. (15%)
Leads the maintenance of electronic, hard copy and microfilm file systems of MidAmerican Energy Company¿s substation and high voltage and distribution drawings. Performs other duties as identified, requested or assigned. (15%)
Develops project plans, provides direction and coordinates project activities associated with drafting. (0-5%)
Support the drafting staff in the areas of employee safety, selection and development of employees, employee counseling and motivation and salary administration. Assists in the administration of the department budget and reporting the work performed within the department. (0-5%)

Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.
Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.
Bachelor's degree in business administration or related studies or equivalent related work experience (typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a Bachelor's degree.)
Six years of drafting or engineering related experience, including one year in a senior technical/leadership role.
Experience in using computer-aided drafting hardware and software.
