Humana Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting in Davenport, Iowa


The Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting analyzes and forecasts financial, economic, and other data to provide accurate and timely information for strategic and operational decisions. Establishes metrics, provides data analyses, and works directly to support business intelligence. Evaluates industry, economic, financial, and market trends to forecast the organization's short, medium and long-term financial and competitive position. The Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.


The Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting ensures data integrity by developing and executing necessary processes and controls around the flow of data. Collaborates with stakeholders to understand business needs/issues, troubleshoots problems, conducts root cause analysis, and develops cost effective resolutions for data anomalies. Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance. Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision, Uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action.

Humana is seeking an Actuary that will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining processes, databases, and logic supporting the actuarial forecast of Medicare Advantage business

  • Partnering with IT to make decisions on approach and strategy for the enhancements to our forecasting models and new web user interface

  • Presenting on projects with larger actuarial audiences and supporting the team's interactions with both actuarial and non-actuarial partners and customers

  • Managing complete projects including solution proposal, timelines, leadership sign-offs, IT requirements, code and model testing and validation, user acceptance testing, and production release

  • Documenting processes, methodologies, and implementation of best practices

  • Ensuring reasonableness of inputs and outputs of the forecasting process

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • FSA with at least 1 year of healthcare industry experience or ASA with at least 3 years of healthcare industry experience

  • MAAA

  • Strong communication skills and project leadership experience

  • Experience in modeling and pricing, with focus on Medicare Advantage

  • Experience in model development using SQL

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with IT departments

  • Understanding of Medicare Advantage industry and regulations
